Our site saw a huge jump in rankings for many keywords in Yahoo today. Does anyone know if they changed their algorithm? Or maybe they finally appreciate the quality content we provide.......
Or maybe they finally updated their backlink data, as Yahoo also use backlinks within the algo. Yahoo are really slow at building up a picture of your site, but when they get there it is normally good.
I don't see any reason to think it is anything more than a routine backlink update. I hope it stays because I've made the #1 spot for my competitive phrase.
I've way better results on Yahoo than Google. But still Yahoo brings 1/10 of Google's traffic. So I don't focus on Yahoo SEO.
i used to think that too but i think yahoo/msn had been getting more lately i have site thats number 1 in google , and another thats nubmer 1 in yahoo for the same term, and google 68 , yahoo a little less then 55 so far this month awstats doesn't break the number search terms by engine, but the site that is nubmer one in yahoo is like number 90 in google so i doubt that many of those people are from google
"me too" (can I say that ??) Same with MSN beta - great strides over the last few days Google - well, up / down all the time..............
YAY, I just made number 1 in all of my keyphrases too!! What's going on there then? I love being number 1 (obviously) but from the work put in by one of my competitors, they should be number 1 really. Ah well LOL! Jane
I also notice a nice jump in yahoo. All my efforts have been spent on google-style optimizations, so perhaps yahoo is moving a little closer to the google algo.
Over the past few months I have noticed that although the Yahoo Slurp has been very active, the pages in cache have been well out of date. I think that part of the change is due to more fresh pages being in the index, and a backlink update. While our portfolio had nice results in the update, I did see a number of competitor's sites take huge hits and plummet in the rankings. Because of the big drop in some of these results, I'm inclined to think that the algo has been tweaked. Normally a fresh cache and backling update doesn't lead to swings this big. I wouldn't get too excited (or upset), though. I have seen Y! rankings bounce up and down during the last 45 days. This could be another step in a new algo, or perhaps the combined results of the "tests" they have been running lately.
