problem installing apache (using XAMPP)

Discussion in 'PHP' started by rhythmiccycle, Dec 29, 2007.

i've used XAMPP to install apache a couple times with success, but i'm trying to install apache onto this laptop (running XP), and i'm haveing some problems.

MySql is running, but Apache is not.

when I hit "Start" next to Aphache, I get an alert:

then the text on XAMPP says:
I thought that maybe I should disable IIS, but when i went to "Services" IIS is not listed.

    please help.

Try using a different port. Maybe 80 is in use...

type "netstat" in the dos prompt, see if port 80 is indeed being used by other program.

or go to the apache config, change the port to 8080. post here if you found more error

Had the exact same problem. Switching ports didn't work, either.
I also tried another all-in-one server package, IBServer, with the same results.
The only way I could get Apache to work at all was to install the apache program by itself with the msi from their website.

This is odd as I've run a server with IBServer and XAMPP before on a different machine without any problems whatsoever.
