The only way to "remove" the background is to set it to the same colour as the background of the page you're displaying the ads on (obviously this won't work if you've got a background image/pattern). You can't make the background of AdSense ads transparent without editing the AdSense code itself, which would be against the programme policies.

In case of referral 2 ads, the bg will be normally white. For other ads, you can set the bg that matches or contrasts your site color. That is the normal practice followed. :)

you have to have some color code in the background field. if you want your adsense background to be the same as your website background, then find out what is the color code of your website background and put that code when you generate your adsense ad box.

That's not strictly true, although I don't know the answer to the original question.

I remember reading a post here on DP where the publisher had made his background transparent. I 'think' it was done with CSS. There was even a link to the site as proof.

Unfortunately, I've been unable to find the post again.

That sort of thing sounds like it would be against the Adsense programme policies to me.

becareful when playing with color of foreground and background, you could be against the Adsense programme policies without knowing.

Yes, I agree it could very well be against TOS, although as I remember that post, the publisher hadn't altered the Adsense code in any way. He had just placed the code inside a CSS area.
