Former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto is said to be critically wounded following a suicide attack on a political rally in Rawalpindi, her husband, Asif Ali Zardari, was quoted as saying on CNN affiliate Geo TV. http://edition.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/asiapcf/12/27/pakistan.sharif/index.html I just heard on local news she died. How sad
This news article says Bhutto is safe, and it's updated at 6:50 PM IST, means 15 mins ago.. http://in.rediff.com/news/2007/dec/27pakemergency.htm
Her father was hanged and now she had succumbed to the extremists. A blow to democracy in Pakistan. Whatever faults she might have had she had represented the saner elements in Pakistani society. Well Musharaf has to rein in the extremist elements if he wants to save Pakistan from fanatics.
That will complicate the already problematic situation in Pakistan. She has her own group of die hard supporters. Hopefully there won't be violence against rival groups.
Bhutto has been assassinated http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071227/ap_on_re_as/pakistan;_ylt=Artb8qenYGWttxlC2hlnjmys0NUE
I hope that the situation won't revert back to military rule again. It will be quite a few steps backwards after struggling so hard for a democratic elections.
