Does it matter if i pick domain name with .org. I am looking for .org as .com domain name are hard to find for niche i am looking for... But there are plenty of them with .ORG. As i understand .org is only used by non-profit organisations. However i have seen domain running with .org for Businesses .. I am confused
plenty of commercial sites use .org, and that's perfectly acceptable at the moment. the only thing to worry about is the domain name for your site being harder to remember without the "standard" .com.
In spite of the historic background as a domain for non-profit organizations there are no restrictions. Anybody can register .org domains (incuding for Businesses).
.org was made for non-profit. If I were you, I would try sticking with .com, or .net at the least. Most users (i believe it was near 85%) will type .com, no matter how many times hearing .net, .org etc.
Stay away from the .org; it just confuses people. I still type in .com when I go to craigslist.....thank god they have it forwarded. .net is slightly better but only if there is no way you'll ever get a decent .com domain. In the end; it's all how you market the site and what you're offering.
only reason i was looking for .org , as .com doesn't give me lot of option to choose suitable name for my niche..... i would look for .net as an option. thanks Guys. ...
I think that unless the domain is a "Brandable" domain name, it will not make much difference on the extension. If it is not a brandable domain that people will remember, then most of your traffic will come from links that people follow. In which case, the ext is almost irrelevant.
If you look to sell the domain down the road I would not get a .org if it doesn't match up. I have a .org that I cannot sell very well and learned from that mistake.
