DMOZ: how long to get listed?
Interested to find out from editors what the oldest unlisted site they have found has been. I've just started greenbusting a cat and had a submission from 2000 - that's 4 years old!
I've been anxious about a submission for one of my sites that is now a huge 6 months old. Think I may need a bit more patience! |

I just started a new category and had a site that had been waiting since 27/Nov/1999. Its not uncommon to see sites that have been waiting since 2000.
Sarahk - Maybe you should apply to greenbust that categroy to get your site listed. Just make sure your intentions are not to unfairly promote your site and I doubt you would have any problems. foxyweb - You should probably resubmit your site. Chances are good that it was declined for some reason. |

Thanks rwhetsto, I've applied for other NZ sites and been declined. My original application was for the cat (real estate) but when I was declined I was told that there are very complex rules associated with the cat.
That said, at the time the editor was "ybrich" (ie ynot) who made about 5 edits and went cold. For the greater part I don't have any conflicts at all so may well do that. In the mean time my new cat has Quote:

Thanks rwhetso
I might just do that But then, they are real picky and, apart from just recently when I got hammered by google [I am still proving my theory but it is to do with adsense usage], I have always enjoyed top 10 positions extensively. [I've got them back by throwing out adsense!] So why bother when I have resubmitted before? Seems a waste of time.

Yep thats DMOZ!
Ha
I went and had a peek thankyou The posts there are totally indicative of the ridiculous situation that exists at DMOZ! The guy trying to get his Web hosting site listed [3star rating] does not know how close he got to being thrown out. The problem is the arrogance of the editors - they spend more time p...... p.. and trying to be Mr Important than getting on with the business of listing sites. Ok, this guy doesn't really understand what a hopeless organisation DMOZ is and is applying his own criteria to the process, but the editors could, 1.) just ignore the post [they already do this by not keeping to a preset submission rate] 2.) Place one reply which refers the poster to time guides instead of arguing the toss over the forum query time being less than one month [he missed by three days!] and get on with the more important process of viewing submissions, but, no, they need to feel important.

I find lots of submissions with no dates or details of the submission but some editor back in 2000 has bounced it from one cat to another. Have to assume that these predate the current system and therefore would be '99 or earlier.
Alot of these sites don't exist anymore but a surprising amount do. |

And I thought 5 months was a long time to not have been listed!

I got lucky w/DMOZ. The editor of the category I submitted to was someone I'd already exchanged links with. I emailed him and a day later he listed me

Don't know if you are familiar with meetup.com but they organise usergroup type events globally. It's a great concept. Anyway they have
http://dmoz.meetup.com which, in the context of recent posts, could be read as "come along and lead an editor astray" meetings! Now why did I vote for an unlicensed venue? Anyone for some Bolly? |

I just submitted a couple of my sites about two weeks ago. Looks like I won't need to bother checking to see if they made it anytime soon.

It took one of my websites 2 years, but then they added it twice!
Well worth the wait! I only got one of my own sites in. I submitted a freinds and it was added within a week. Go figure. I submitted a sire to recource zone recently that has been waiting about one month. |
