Yahoo to Launch Site for Tech Investors

Quote:
Yahoo is set to release a new feature called TechTicker that will target technology investors, according to a report in The New York Times. TechTicker will feature streaming video, blogs, and live coverage of breaking news in the tech industry.

The Times notes that Yahoo rolled out a similar streaming video feature in 2000 called FinanceVision that was ultimately unable to draw much of an audience. However, the timing of FinanceVision corresponded with a huge sell-off in the stock market, and broadband adoption is up considerably since then.

Yahoo also has the advantage of operating the number one finance site, which should serve as a natural way to promote the new features. Meanwhile, neither CNBC nor Fox Business Channel, TechTicker’s cable competitors, offer live streaming video over the Web at this time.

It seems like the timing is right this time around for Yahoo to get into enhanced tech investing coverage. On the other hand, it could be too late to the party and signal the impending popping of another bubble.

Nows a good time for a small tech startup in my opinion - they're all getting snapped up by the big 3 it would seem and now this...will be interesting to see where it goes!
