I have spoken to some people and they say that adding there link to small directories isn't worth it but I think the other way. I reckon that where every my link is placed it will pay me back either by 1 hit to another link to help with Google. So what do you guys think on this note. Is it really worth it????
I add links to small directories in my secondary wave of optimization. It takes me a long time to add my sites to them and many times the links never appear. I am not sure it is worth the effort but nothing venture nothing gained. I do have backlinks from a few. Shannon
Just remember this even the DMOZ started out small, a very long time ago, but still. If you don't support the little ones they can never grow to become big directories. BTW anyone wanting either a gmail invite or to help me with my directory project pm me or email me nickberry@gmail.com
Nickberry, Let us know when your directory is ready for submssions. It is directories which advertise here to which I submit. Shannon
Trust me I will. I'm using the main DMOZ categories and most of thier sub categories, they've got the best all around categories, once it's up, users will be able to submit categories that aren't in the system and I'm hoping to have a 24-48 hour turn around on categories and site submisions. what I think I'm going to do is offer the first 10,000 user accounts for free, after that all accounts will have a small one time fee to join. And users will be able to submit as many sites as they want.
I'll certainly be in there for the first 10,000 Wish you best of luck. (I think you could probably get by charging after the first 5,000).. Even a lot of PR 5 directories charge all too much and have fewer than 5,000 links. From what I hear, the links don't pour in as fast as one might think. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here.
I think directories no matter how big or small they are will help your site somehow, if now then in the future. I just make sure I list my site on the perfect categories.
Does someone have a list here of directories? There is/was one on seochat that listed all the Free directories, but I'd also like to see worthwhile directories which require payment. Eric
Small directories are pretty useful for websites. But in your directory page, there must your competitors. "Relevancy" is one of the most important factor in SERPs and small directories (& low PR pages) helps to improve your relevancy; http://www.google.com/search?q=related:www.my-web-site.com
I usually just use webceo for my search engine and directory submission and the occasional manual addition to small dir's hen i come accross one.
I believe any link is a good link that I don't have to pay for or give something back! (i.e. forced reciprical link) Cheers
You might be getting more then you ask for with some of the new directories. I just finished doing a lot of directory submissions for a new service and ended up getting a large quantity of unsolicited mail out of it. I can’t track down which one is selling e-mail addresses but they were mostly new directories.
You submit to these directories using a free email address, such as Hotmail or Yahoo. When the spam gets too bad at the email address just create a new one & use that one.
I think I have the best list of free directories on the Internet. I do not personally believe that paid directory submissions are worthwhile. If you want to pay for links, there are better ways to spend your money.
I completely agree, a lot of my site growth are from website directories and many of which are from small web directories. idk, some directories may gain you only a few visitors, but it's free and takes a couple of seconds to do. There are so many that it would be worth it. Though it depends, in that amount of time can you gain even more visitors for free? Though I still say paid advertising is better, web directories are still worth while.
