Alternative Names to "Sponsored Links"

Since Google is frowning upon the use of Sponsored Links on websites and I have heard that it may penalize sites who may use the term Sponsored Links right by any links on a webpage.

What are you recommandations for changing the text Sponsored Links on a webpage to, such as "Recommanded Sites", etc.

I like recommended sites, although I'm not sure I can recommend some that come up on adsense!

"Recommended Sites" is what I've been calling them on my site for many months now - which also helps increase click-throughs to the advertiser's site, too - I haven't gotten penalized or anything at all, YET. Google is smart and often times one step ahead, so watch out.

One thing to note though. Regardless of what you call them it is easy for Google to spot a list of links.

When ever you get a list of outgoing links that are separated by the <br> tag or within a <ul> tag it is obvious what they are, it doesn't matter what you decide to call it.

in my opinion, google will consider all of them and i'm sure that they are using so many criterias if a link is paid or not

Just because there's an existing list of links does NOT mean they're sold. For months, before I started selling links, I had a blogroll on my blog to other related sites in my niche - and so does everyone else, pretty much.

Yes, eventually you probably WILL get caught - Google is smart - but just because there are links doesn't mean they're sponsored. Not always.

Many websites use the word "resources" replace "links".

However, This does send up a flag. Add to that if the links are not highly related to the site, you're giving Google a lot to work with to suspect you.

One one of my sites, when I have developed a new site, and want to give it a little push, I place it under a column called "New Sites" or "New Member Sites". However, these links stay on the page for about a month or so, and are constantly replaced with new ones. None of the links are sold or paid for links, so I hope that won't be a problem with the mightly G.

Strictly speaking, yes, yours would be one of the types of sites Google is hunting.

These are clients, therefore you are "paid". And you are doing it to give then a "push", therefore you are doing this to pass PR to the site.

This is a good example of how this "witch hunt" can get out of hand. You also have legitimate reasons to post them on your site. I'm sure Googles answer to this would be "use the nofollow attribute and you won't have a problem"

I was actually thinking about using the nofollow tag for these, but I haven't done so yet.

It's a pretty sad state of affairs when one has to check if things are ok with Google before doing things with your own site. Sadly, as long as Google remains the dominant search engine, I guess we have no choice but to live with their rules.

it's my understanding that if you have a list of links or footer links you better use the "nofollow" attribute on them or they will look like paid links and your site will be penalized, i.e. lose PR and/or the ability to pass PR.
