List of UK counties

Discussion in 'General Business' started by Trance-formation, Dec 6, 2004.

I've compiled a list of UK countries for a project I'm working on (the list is in excel) and I have written it up into a <select> drop down form tag.

It's no biggie, but it did take me an hour or so, so if any of you might find it useful in saving yourselves time, here they are.

That might come in handy at some point soon...

Out of interest, while you were looking for the data, you didn't happen to stumble across a list of UK towns (All of them) - It's for a project I want to start working on at some point soon.

    Cheers

SE, I forgot whether you are (might be WeirFire) but if you're at uni you can log on to what's called Athens. From there you can download all sorts of geographical data in csv form. Probably even straight from the census website etc. as well.

You can write a scrape script in PHP which explodes the grabbed array into a database.

    SEBasic...

Did you get the list of towns into a database? If so, what would it take to get you to share the data with me, ie, in a CSV, or XML file, or any other useable format? Let me know if you want to share it!

    Cheers :)

    Only just saw this post...

I didn't put it into a DB but It shouldn't be too tricky to do it once I dig the list out of my machine.

    Anyone interested in it?

I'll prob upload it as an XLS file...

Your counties list is missing some. Avon for example. Greater London is a bit hard to find too

    Hi Guys

This is my version of the counties that I've been using for a while. It's taken straight from a MySQL database, but it also groups by region (England, Wales etc) and by area (midlands, north etc).

I've written a PHP Object that goes with it too. If anyone wants it, give me a shout :D

Does Royal Mail have a csv file of all the towns and postcodes? I know AusPost in Australia do.
