I need a lot of custom work done on an SMF forum. Firstly, I need some help to upgrade my forum and all the modifications installed. I currently have 19 mods installed of which 18 are working perfectly (to the best of my knowledge). Once the upgrade to the latest version of SMF is complete all the mods need to be fully functional. There are a few other forum modifications I would like to make. 1) I’d like to have a chatroom, probably a flash-based one, because I have heard that other types of chatrooms might use too many connections and therefore seriously affect performance. 2) I’d like to have more complex profiles, giving them a more social-networking feel. There is already a modification for this on the SMF forum, but I require a few custom changes. 3) Going along with the profile changes, I’d also like a more advanced member search feature. Currently you can only search by 5 limited features, but this does not meet my needs. I’d like a much more comprehensive search feature. Basically things like ‘location,’ ‘relationship status,’ ‘language’ and so on. So if you’re familiar with myspace.com, then you’d have a good idea of what I require for the advanced search options. 4) I’d like to have all the IM program icons on the same line within the forum’s threads. I can say more about this, but I don’t think it should be too hard to accomplish. Probably just requires the removal of one ‘<br />’ tag. Speaking of the IM options, I’d like to replace AIM instant messenger with either Skype or QQ; preferably skype since QQ usage is too heavily concentrated in China. 5) I’d like to have emails sent to new members, 3, 10 and 30 days after they first join. For more information about this please see this post on the SMF forum. 6) Finally, because English and Chinese are the primary languages of my forum, I’d like you to show me exactly how to translate everything into Chinese. What I mean, is maybe you can give me two copies of the language files; one for English that will actually be used on the forum, and a modified English file that maybe has special characters next to the words that need to be translated. If you can’t do that, then simply explaining how to translate things into Chinese for the users not using English might be good enough. That takes care of my forum. I’d also like some help with my blog. I want users to be able to subscribe to blog updates by email. Many users in China do not have their own computers, and therefore things like RSS readers are not that convenient. I’d like it to be extremely simple for users to subscribe. All they should have to do is enter their email address and then click something like ‘subscribe’ The emails that they receive should not actually contain the blog posts, but just a link to the blog and the title of the post. I am using Serendipity and even though I got some suggestions on how to achieve this, I haven’t been able to produce the desired effect. Here is a link to the Serendipity website, and also to a thread I started there where you might find some useful information. This is something that I’d like done as quickly as possible, and I really don’t think it’s that hard to achieve. The final addition to my website that I need help with is a director for blogs. I’d like users to be able to submit links to their blogs and have all the blogs stored in a database. Of course the directory should be searchable, because the point of it is to help browsers of my website to find interesting blogs depending on their likes. So I’ll require some categories such as location, language, blog type (in terms of content) and so on. Maybe it would also be nice to have 15 or 20 random, newest, popular, most recently updated and so on blogs listed. There may be some free directory scripts out there, so if any of you are nice enough to point them out to me, thanks. The blog directory is not a high priority item, and it may be something that I have to postpone depending on the cost of other things I am working on. I have a vision for my website, and with time I’ll be working towards that. As long as things go well, there should be more projects in the future, so I’m hoping to develop long-term relationships. If you can only achieve some of my requirements, don’t shy away from bidding as I’m willing to work with more than one person/team. Anyone I work with would need to be available by some sort of IM program, preferably skype. Hopefully I didn’t forget to mention anything.
