I don't think downgrading is possible. the database mods on each version are too great

You can downgrade just as if you would upgrade manually. Copy/overwrite all the file in your blogs directory except the the plugins folder and the themes folder that are in the wp-content folder.

Then run upgrade.php at your blogs URL: www.yoursite.com/blog/wp-admin/upgrade.php

I have done this few times

Well, most popular plugins will have upgrades for newer wp versions...have you checked if there are any updates to them?

You can't downgrade, as far as I know. All you can do is reinstall using the old software version.

but he is using fantastico. that is the problem. i always suggest my friends to install wordpress manually by uploading the files via FTP. dont use fantastico. i really don't like it. dont know why.

but in your case, i think it is better for you to deactivate the plugin for a moment. wait for the plugin author to upgrade their plugin though.

^ Yup turn off all plugins and then reinstall wordpress manually. It's quite easy.

if you have a backup of your old db it should be easy WP has a release archive
    http://wordpress.org/download/release-archive/

If you dont have a backup I dont think it could be done. I'm not positive but I think that wp2.3 has a different db structure than 2.2.

    Good luck
