I read somewhere that double hyphens in domain name will get you penalized somehow. example-domain-name.com Fact or Fiction?
I have two double hyphens sites, one is working very nice and other one with few months old even not indexed by google. So, I have both experience.
No, double hyphens aren't penalized by Google. I do know of one directory which won't add double-hyphen domain names, (for reasons they don't explain) but that's the only time I've ever come across any bias against it. The only thing is that domain names with more than 2 hyphens can sometimes seem spammy...but it just depends. I believe Google (like the other major search engines) places very little importance on the domain name itself. On-page optimization and links are most important. cheers ~ Denise
I think that www. too-many-keywords-separated-by-hyphens-in-a-domain-name-looks-spammy-so-probably-is-spam .com So I guess the search engines think the same. Sure, get a keywords domain - but make it easy for your visitor to remember. All the best sites are generally alloneword.com
Relax yourself... you can have a hundred Hyphens in the domain name. Its not going to be a big thing. For that matter, hyphens are more preferred than underscores for naming domains or file names even by google. so concentrate on something else...
