I am looking for an alternative to google analytics

Anyone know of a good free alternative to google analytics?

My main gripes with it are that it is slow to update, and it seems to be not noticing quite a bit of traffic.

I am 99.9% sure I have it setup right, so I don't think that is the issue.

Please note that Google Analytics doesn't work on clients that have disabled javascript, or that have explicitly blocked the urchin.js file. Also, you'll want to make sure the analytics code is loaded on all of your pages.

I am trying statcounter.com right now, it is definately giving me alot more info, but its too early to tell if its worth anything. It looks like it is pageloads, so some decoding will be necessary to get the real data.

I wish I could, I cannot figure out how to install awstats on godaddy's hosting, and I can't switch hosting tll I make some money. Anyone know if it is possible to use awstats with godaddy?

awstats.sourceforge.net is good. Even i have issues with google analytics. I get almost 100 to 1500 unque hits as per awstats also i know i am getting that many users every day infact i am also getting orders from same site also i also visit my site more then 10 times a day, yet google analytics says 1-2 users.

Forgoet all thing i also use adwords from google itself for same site and their google says more then 100 -300 clicks every day? how is that possible?

Having hits and visitors is a different thing. Awstats is known to inflate the stats. However, you should look at the unique visits in the awstats to get an idea of the unique visitors on your site not hits!!

In my opinion php-stats is a way better than google analytics. ;)
It hasn't got any roi-feature but it shows a lot of interesting details about your visitors. (example http://www.stevelim.com/stats/admin.php?action=main)

Piwik is an Open Source solution to measure your website audience, that is a true alternative to Google Analytics and Xiti! One first big difference is that contrary to the two latter Piwik keeps your visitors’ data on your own server. That means you can be assured that nobody else gets access to them! It is undoubtedly a good point as tracking and personalized advertising are more and more unwelcomed by users :)

Getting information about visits and about hits are two very different things. Don't mix Google Analytics and similar programs -- which are an evolution from the old hit counter -- with programs like Awstats, because they work in different ways. See this URL for an explanation.

I'm using StatCounter and it works good for me, but your needs might be diferent. Google analytics is nice because of the graphs but is flawed IMO.

I have had significant differences using Google Analytics and other statistical tools. In some cases there is no point to confusion as for example in Goals completion, where results should not be subject to error. I would like to know if some other one has had the same experience.

I dont think Google analytics could have much effect slowing down your site. I am now using 2 web analytics : Google and Piwik.. Piwik is an open source web analytics which you need to download and install on your server. It also has very nice graphic and offer API (google doesn't)

Another point, just wondering if anyone of you have statistic of how many sites or percentage of live sites are using Google Analytics?

    Hope it has helped.
