    Hello everyone,

Got some probs with my wordpress blog... don't know if you have experienced any of this before, but my categories can't be edited or deleted.....

I want to remove some categories, but can't.... even the categories that have 0 posts assigned to them, can't be deleted.... today I also tried to add a new category, but it gave me this message:

    "Service Temporarily Unavailable

The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later."

Don't know if the adding prob existed before, or that it is new....but I wasn't able to edit past categories since a very long time....

Is this a self-hosted WordPress installation or the WordPress.com service you're having problems with?

Self Hosted Wordpress installation.... I also noticed that sometimes when mouse cursor points at links, they don't seem to be recognized as links unless after hovering the mouse over them again and again... only then they shine and can be clickable. Any clues?

I'd start by disabling plugins and see if you can delete your categories afterword. If that doesn't work, then I'd say your database is FUBAR'd.

I disabled the plugins, and was able to delete one category I guess.. that was time ago...

Now I wanted to delete some more and replace them, but even with all my plugins disabled, I can't.... it just gives me this red horizontal stripe on the category name and info, which I guess means that there is an error and category can't be deleted. I can however change the name of the category, but I need to delete them.

Also another thing is that I can't add categories, but only replace the existing ones..... when I try to add, it gives me this message:

    "Service Temporarily Unavailable

The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later."

If my database is messed up, how can I repair it?

What version of WordPress are you using? 2.4 is scheduled to come out next month; if you're using an older version (pre 2.3.1) I strongly suggest you upgrade.

I checked it and apparently my version is the one BEFORE 2.3.1.... I use the one click install option in my host, dreamhost, and there is a button next to my site named: "upgrade to 2.3.1", so I guess I am using an older version.

If I upgrade now, will I lose any data/settings...etc.? What precautions should I use before pressing that button?
