Should webmasters be allowed to set minimum CPM rates?

And if we can and I dont realize it, I am gonna fell really stupid after this post.

I allow people to advetise on my site, as many do, but shouldnt we be able, as site owners, to set a limit on the price?

You can set

The prices paid on your site to your advertisers.
Google is not one of your advertisers.
You sign up to USE their service.
They have full control on ads, pricing, etc.
Not you except for providing content and visitors that will enhance those ads and prices.

I like the current setup - it's market driven. People tend to overvalue advertising space on their site(s).

If you believe that your adspace costs $100 per second, then maybe yes you are overvalueing it. But when I check the stats for my channels and see something like 7 clicks - $0.00 or $0.01, I think that would much rather keep the 7 visitors than lose them for fraction of a penny, it would be nice to have a feature to set the minimum value of the top-bid ad in order for the ad block to be displayed. Chance are it will never happen, but we can always dream

Hopefully as YPN and other ad networks come along, competition will force some features like that which will greatly benefit the publishers.

We're talking CPM rates here, not CPC

SportsOulaw did not specify that those were image only ads, and since ads are usually text & image, then cpc is in dirrect correlation with cpm

Thread title: Should webmasters be allowed to set minimum CPM rates?

CPM ads are not exclusively image ads either

Regardless, I think if advertisers want to set their own ad rates they should pull Adsense off their site(s) and sell the ad space directly.

yeah, I was referring to the CPM ads. With the feature allowing sites to advertise exclusively on your site, I think we should also be able to set some sort of minimum.

For instance, I spent most of Sunday stuck with Burger King ads on my football site that seemed to pay next to nothing.

Me too, except it was McDonalds

Revenue was off 3% vs the "norm". but I've also had days where CPM ads showed up to a 15% increase vs the "norm". I tend to look at things on a 30 day window. Chasing things on a daily basis is just too ineffective.

IMO it all balances out.
