so he basically signed up for like 10 webhosts that he is promoting and getting the income there... It's not affiliate marketing when you sign up for your own offers and is usually against the CJ affiliate agreements with some companies when you do.

No! there's a problem in this case. Web hosting is a subscription service & if the user has generated the sale all by himself it cannot be considered as a genuine order. Most of the hosting companies want their clients to stick with them for a long time. Not just 1 month. In other words CJ is not a good place for advertisers. Overall CJ.com sucks
