Lets Stop Google bots to crawl through robots.txt and teach it a lession

Who is greater?
Google or Webmasters.

I think its webmasters - because

* Webmasters can live without Google as there are many more alternatives.
Example - John Chow.
Google penalized his site from SERPs- but since the penalization -- his income has risen from $12000/m to $18000/m

* Internet came into its own in the early 1980s. Google came into our lives in 1998. There were many successful websites before Google like eBay and Amazon and they are great successes.
Big sites like eBay stops Google bots through robots.txt (according to Matt Cutts here )--as they do not want SEs to crawl them
As a result Google bots has to compromise and rout SERPs results though third party like DMOZ to maintain their credibility through a normal surfer's eyes.

We can definitely bring Google to its knees if all websites on the net stops Google bots to crawl their sites.

Google has become too outrageous due to its too rich too soon success.

It needs to wake up and be more responsive and co-operative with webmasters and just can't behave like Online Police that its engaged to now.

All those earning from AdSense need not worry --as if all webmasters stop Google bots- others will learn from the lession and the Ad business will go to them and they would gladly share with webmasters without fuss like Google.

I agree..
If all you guys would exclude the Google bots, it would be so much easier for the rest of us to get a decent ranking at Google.

I have too much appreciation for Google to ever even consider doing something like that. If you aren't satisfied with how Google is handling the situation, then just simply stop using their service. I see no reason to start some kind of world wide campaign against them, when they haven't done anything wrong (they can do whatever they want on Google, and the same logic applies to everyone else's website) and it would NEVER work in the first place.

While you guys are banning google from your sites, i'll be letting them get all of my traffic "lawlz". More traffic for me >.>.

Just like IBM and Microsoft, one day Google will be the company everyone loves to hate. It's only a matter of time. If you think about it, the tech industry is fast paced; the way companies reach their prime and fall is fairly fast. Compared to a Coca-Cola, Google's reign is nothing.

Even if you guys are being sarcastic >.>, I <3 Google right now.

It would never work. There would be too much incentive for people to continue letting google crawl their site because the traffic gained from google is big chunk of some people's business.

Heh

It would be fun if we could genuinely encourage all webmasters to do it but that will never happen.
Google have done a lot of hard work and development and they don't deserve to be punished for being a success just as they do not mean to punish anyone who plays by the rules, I don't have an issue with Google just the people who force them to make drastic move by abusing the system.
Just think, if it wasn't for all the idiots of the world we would still have meta keywords working for us which was a nice simply way to SEO

Google aren't penalizing paid links, just discounting them.

You wouldn't expect all of your Adwords ads links to be counted would you? Imagine making an Adwords ad and then Google detecting 100,000 backlinks! It would mess the entire SERP system up!

All they're doing is discounting other paid links as well as their own.

By the Way, John Chow DID need google to get where he got. And it was BECAUSE OF GOOGLE that his hits/profits when up JUST WHEN THEY DITCHED HIM. To say it was nothing to do with Google is ignorant.

Now, this is PURE BULLSHIT
This is the link to ebay's robots.txt : http://www.ebay.com/robots.txt
This is the content of that file:

Quote:
### BEGIN FILE ###
#
# allow-all
#
#
# The use of robots or other automated means to access the eBay site
# without the express permission of eBay is strictly prohibited.
# Notwithstanding the foregoing, eBay may permit automated access to
# access certain eBay pages but soley for the limited purpose of
# including content in publicly available search engines. Any other
# use of robots or failure to obey the robots exclusion standards set
# forth at <http://www.robotstxt.org/ wc/ exclusion.html> is strictly
# prohibited.
# v3
#

User-agent: *
Disallow: /help/confidence/
Disallow: /help/policies/
Disallow: /disney/

### END FILE ###
I think everybody gets that google bot is allowed to crawl e-bay
I hope I've made it clear for everybody
