Directory spammer? or directory moron?

Sometime ago, this guy submitted a site to my health and mental health directory, specifically a page from xxx.cancersymptomspage.com. I listed the home page for his site.

Subsequently, he submitted several more individual pages. I emailed him saying that his site was already listed and that I wouldn't list individual pages. The additional submissions continued at a rate of any where from 2 or 3 a day to 2 or 3 a week.

I emailed him again requesting that he desist, suggesting that if he didn't I'd delete the listing for his site. The submissions continued.

I deleted his original listing and emailed him again to tell him that. The submissions continued.

I emailed him again and told him to desist or I would make complaints to spam blacklists. Today I received more submissions.

I can't figure out what the purpose is. Is he just dumb as a stump? Is this automated submission software?

same things are happening to me also. one chap dared to submit his site 213 times with all different titles and description. (if it was not automated software i must say he had lot of patience:p ) many shopping sites, online store submit their entire catelog to directories. normally thease people do not respond to emails or use junk email address.
    i figured out 3 possibilities .
    1. automated softwares
    2. directory submission providers(no offence to seriouse services)
    3. some ill mental people do it if they found their site is rejected.

But that was the odd part - I actually did list him the first time he submitted. He had the link. Now he has nothing.

it must be automated submission software then.
i am thinking of upgrading my submission system with email vertting and image verification. this is somewhat little troblesome for webmasters but i am sure seriouse webmasters would not mind it :)

To my mind both of those are not an issue to webmasters. The problem is with that script used on most directories, it has the c's that look like g's etc etc. As long as the image is legible then it sounds a sensible step.

I very much dislike submitting to sites that use image validation.

The domain is heavily used in bad submissions, and the majority of sites they submit are scraper/made-4-adsense and similarly themed.

Here's a rundown on a few I've captured from that domain:

    User: "affmanish@rediffmail.com"
    URLs: "http://www.buyingdiamonds.org/" "http://www.pregnancycheck.com/" "http://www.bestsampleresume.com/" "http://www.amortizationer.com/" "http://www.bestpianolessons.com/" "http://www.bestcoverletters.com/" "http://www.indicareer.com/" "http://www.desktopwallpaperfree.com/" "http://www.usdivorcelaws.com/" "http://www.passportvisa.org/" "http://www.divorcerate.org/"

    User: "seo_nandini@rediffmail.com"
    URLs: "http://www.bestsamplequestions.com/" "http://www.interviewtips.org/" "http://www.mstarareid.com/" "http://www.mspamelaanderson.com/" "http://www.neopetscheats.org/" "http://www.mscarmenelectra.com/" "http://www.msjenniferaniston.com/" "http://www.msevalongoria.com/" "http://www.mshalleberry.com/" "http://www.mskatieholmes.com/" "http://www.msashanti.com/" "http://www.msangelinajolie.com/" "http://www.msbritneyspears.com/" "http://www.msjessicasimpson.com/" "http://www.recipesindian.com/" "http://www.chinesesymbolsmeaning.com/"

    User: "affrupa@rediffmail.com"
    URLs: "http://www.mskellyclarkson.com/" "http://www.msjessicaalba.com/" "http://www.mshilaryduff.com/" "http://www.msgwenstefani.com/" "http://www.msdanicapatrick.com/" "http://www.short-funny-stories.com/" "http://www.computerdesktopwallpapers.com/" "http://www.popular-wedding-songs.com/"

I think you are doing yourself and your directory a disservice if you include any of the sites from these domains.

Perhaps he hired a company to submit his site (and subpages) to directories....

I get the same thing for the same spammer. I don't know what he thinks he's accomplishing. Hell, I know all of his URL's by heart now and just immediately delete them when I see them in my queues. My guess is the guy is either 12 yrs old, has his own submission software and its set to constantly bombard us with his garbage sites, or both.

Wow. I found a couple that got by me as well. His indian food recipe site and his gaming cheat site. Guess I was caught off guard by his change-up from the usual actress, models, and jewelry spam.

I had this same idiot submitting to one of my sites.

Whether it was him or a proxy, after repeated emails that went ignored, I began listing his sites with a description of my choice:

"Duplicate content spam site by ________ (insert user and site name)"

As the user gets an email upon approval with the URL, title and description of their approved site .... wouldn't you know, I got an email asking WTF?!

After I got his attention, I proceeded to delete all of his submissions.

Oh yeah ... and no one (him or other) has bothered to try to resubmit ;)

You could ask him if he's using submission software. He's selling links here.

That's hilarious Minstrel. I also liked the way you handled this spammy situation, wrmineo. Maybe this loser will finally realize there will be some consequences to his actions.

Unfortunately, no. The directory software I'm using doesn't have that feature.
