Google has 64% of all internet searches

I found this on Digg Today. take a look at these stats. Ask.com should just shut down shop now while they still have money.

Why should Ask shut down? I bet they're making a bunch of money. I'm glad that Google is most successful.

I think the competition still have to exist. If I would be an Ask.com owner, I would still tried to find ways to improve search business. Oportunities are abundant at any time.

Note: Data is based on four week rolling periods (ending 9/01/07; 8/26/07; 7/1/2006) from the Hitwise sample of 10 million US Internet users.

Please note that Ask.com in many countries gets over 25% total of internet searches and yahoo in asia is a killer!
Google in the US and Canada is the giant, but in the rest of the world its competitors are very close up or ahead!

Yes, USA traffic does not mean World traffic.

Here's a bit of trivia - South Korea which is probably the world's most Internet connected country barely uses Google.

Does this mean Google should shut up shop? Nope, it would be illogical to do so. Same priniciple applies for other search engines including ask.com

Well said...

ASK.com has been making a big push at google using Radio and Tv ads recently in the USA specifically
detailing about the search results with video, ipod and other major sectors that bring it "above" googles.

Is that having an impact?

I would say yes... as those radio and tv ads are attention getters and when its hitting 3 out off 4
listeners/viewers then at best "curiosity" that will serve its purpose in the long run..

I think thier search results are improving rapidly and in some searchs do have an edge

http://www.ask.com/web?q=motorcycle+...c=19&o=0&l=dir

very nice work ..

thx
malcolm

And that's about the percentage of traffic I get compared to Yahoo or any other search engine.

I honestly hope it balances out. It's like putting all our eggs in one basket with Google.

When I see the difference between google and it's competitor I said wow what a big difference.
BTW, in my personal opinion google's quality really worth, I love it's clean and simple interface.

Although Ask has more market share in the US than anywhere else. Things don't look great for them ... but it's their choice whether they want to close shop or not.

There are a lot of non-search engine ways for people to find things on the net nowadays: Digg, Stumble, Wikipedia, etc. Google is gaining share of the search pond, but wp is a shark in other ponds.

Google and Yahoo have such a solid presence in soooo many areas of the Internet, it would take a ton of money for Ask.com to catch up.

You do realize that Ask.com is owned by one of the biggest corporations on the internet, right? They got lots of loot!

They are owned by IAC (Inter ActiveCorp). This company owns over 60 huge web properties, including LendingTree, RealEstate.com, Entertainment, iwon, Excite, MyWay, Gifts.com, eVite, Ticketmaster and Home Shopping Network.

Here in the Netherlands, ALMOST everybody uses Google. I think the percentage is even more then in the USA.
