Please tell me if I got this right: PR is a measure given to every page that Google has in its index. PR is computed in real time, and once in about 3 months exported and exposed via the Google toolbar and such. The PR of some page A will influence the PR of the pages it links to, and the higher it is the greater the influence. PR is used to sort the results returned for a given search. Unfortunately the last line above doesn't seem to hold in reality. For example, search for the word "jungle" and you'll get the following result: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jungle => PR6 http://www.thejunglefun.com/ => PR5 http://www.junglephotos.com/ => PR5 http://www.mbajungle.com/ => PR5 http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/jungle/ => PR3 http://www.online-literature.com/upton_sinclair/jungle/ => PR4 http://www.junglelabs.com/ => PR5 http://sunsite.berkeley.edu/Literature/Sinclair/TheJungle/ => PR5 http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1811233136844420765 => PR5 http://www.itjungle.com/ => PR7 http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/programmes/tv/jungle/ => PR6 The same happens in other tests which makes me wonder how important is the PR in the first place ? What am I missing here ???
Many experts believe that inner-pages carry the authority/trust/PR of the main URL. Thats how SEOs optimize big sites. Now- check the home-page PR of the deep pages ranking. Adjust with what I said and you know it.
Well PR is ismply ONE of the factors in ranking process. So many times a PR3 will outrank a PR6 for a given term.... It was around 2004 when the weighting of PR in to rankings seemed to start dwindling.... I wrote about it last year with; the GoogleToolbar PageRank Demystified If you want to have a look at some of the original Patents, I just finished looking at the most recent update - a tale of two PageRank patents Relevance is likely one of the stronger additions to the over-all shceme of things. Some folks figured it was Latent Semantic Analysis/Indexing ( LSI ) when G purchased Applied Semantics some time ago... that is really for AdSense/AdWOrds IMO More likely is the numerous patents relating to Phrase Based Indexing and Retrieval Phrase Based Optimization Phrase Based Indexing and Retrieval II Spam Detection in a PaIR system Phrase Based Personalization of Search Anyways, point is that PR is a factor, just not the TOTAL picture to understanding how G ranks documents
Whaaaaa??? R U Mad? It is still ONE of the cornerstones of the rankings.. it is simply not as heavily weighted as in the past as oter elements came into play.... Yeeesshhhh...... PR is BACKLINKs.... try putting 'keywords and content' without any backlinks and see where it gets U.....
