banner showing 2 ads instead of 4?

    Hello folks,

I selected a 'Large Rectangle 336x280' for my site. Everything was fine until this morning when the box which used to display 4 ads is now showing only 2.

Does this happen with Google? Is it on my side?

So why is it that when I choose a medium rectangle instead of a large rectangle, I get 4 ads?

Actually it will do this randomly whenever... doesnt really have to do if there are ads to show or not. Its more to counter balence the image banners and whatnot so you cant blend in a site super well

I have noticed this today also with Large Rectangle (336x280) on my sites as well as other sites. Seems to be a glitch...it should pass.

I would wait ... it is the end of the holiday season .. so a lot of advertisers could've just had their ads run thru the season and will start renewing soon.

Yup this is what I noticed since yesterday. On one of my site that constantly display 4 ads, it's now displaying 2. I went around other people's site and never am I able to find one with more than 2 ads.

It was only this morning that I saw 3 ads on my site. But now, it's back to 2 again. I'm still unable to find any squarish ads with 4 ads yet.

Ya, it does that a lot to me as well - don't worry about it.
    Its google's fault.

I thought that google shows less ads when the value per click are to the advantage of the publisher, eg if two ads are worth a dollar a click, and the other ones are worth a cent each, then they get dropped. This makes it more likely that the high paying ads will be clicked, good for both you and google. Similar thing happens with banner and text option, if the value of a click on a banner is worth more than a significant percentage of the combined total of the text links, hen you get a banner.

(I could be totally wrong on this, but I'm sure I read it somewhere)

Just to clarify, this particular issue is not with the amount of ads available, it is something specific to the Large Rectangle (336x280) ads. For instance, I have a page that has 3 seperate - Large Rectangle (336x280) ad blocks and they are Each showing only 2 ads each. If it was the amount of ad available one would show 4 and then 2 etc..not 2 x 2 x 2. There is something strange going on with the (336x280) ads.

I testify to that too. It's only with those big square ads.

It has been like this for about 2 days now.

I agree and from what I see the more you try to blend the more the ads looked screwed up, do you think this has been set by Google to try and move people away from blending?

The images above ads did not work well for me but once the images were removed, the ads were served in full.

It seems Critters also had the same problem: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=17104&page=20&highlight=critter

It is not just related to images above the ads. I have adsense in a sidebar that has some content blending which at times will only serve one ad at a time.

I’m sure that I have seen a post about this in the Adsense blog or someone's blog but for the life of me I cannot find it. Would anyone else know the url of this post?

I am having this happen with the 250 X 250 ads, so I don't think this is a problem specific to the 336 x 280. They are starting to show 2 ads instead of 3 sometimes (seems to vary by page). I'm also pretty sure that the "dropping the low bid" explanation is the correct one - the value of clicks has increased since this has started happening.

I have had this problem for over a week now. No answer from Google yet.

I also tried with 250x250, same problem happened. It only shows 2 ads.

If someone gets through to google, let me know.
    Thanks.
