http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2007-09-11-n78.html Young internet geek is facing up to 3 years in prison. The man is accused of insulting president Lech Kaczyński. 23 years old Marek W. from Cieszyn has written an amateur piece of software for so-called “website positioning.†After typing the given keyword into a search engine [Google, it turns out] the positioned website pops up as first item. The man used the official website of Polish president Lech Kaczyński for testing the software. When internet users typed “kutas†["penis"] they got the official president’s site. Furthermore – it was the first result. They played with this for couple of months – right up to March this year. That’s when the 23 years old was traced by investigator from the Katowice police office. so where can we get his software??
Is this a crime? Would it be in the home of the free? We all know that "failure" searched in Google results in a link to the white house and W.
He targeted the wrong word. Failure is an acceptable word in daily use. Verbally abusing is a crime everywhere.
They are really hard in poland , i really don't see that as a crime, because her didn't hack into there system.
Almost did it.. His software must have gone all over the internet and created links to the President's site using the keyword. He can now use this negative popularity to market his software. .
Good find. Rep added. I'll be posting this up elsewhere. This is utterly ridiculous. This fella needs the support of wider circles beyond Poland.
thats unbeleivable. i didnt realise you could get arrested for such things. it just shows that the rules of everyday life does apply to the online world too, break the rules an you have to expect to be punished.
What, so if you called the president penis you'd expect to get three years in gaol? Of course not. If Marek W. has broken any laws then laws like that deserve to be broken.
