Hi guys, I was wondering what exactly the cache date next to search result means. Does it mean Google has indexed the page for content and links and has ranked it for a specific keyword search, or does it mean that they just saved a copy of the site for whatever purpose. My cache date keeps changing every other day, but no change in actual search results. Thanks!
I do not believe the date you are seeing has anything to do with when the page was cached. In fact figuring out when the page was cached is a problem. Many web master put a "last updated" notation on there web sites or pages simply so that they can tell which copy Google has cached and the approximate time invovled. However to answer the other part of your question the fact that a page is cached means nothing other than that Google has found it and included it in their index or database of known pages. Once they have found it they will start to gather and compile all the other information about the page, but the cache itself is simply a snapshot of the last time they looked at your page and indicates the page they are currently working with.
Thanks, that makes me feel a little better, made quite a bit of changes on the homepage and added a ton of subpage content in the past 2-3 weeks and it's still ranked in the high 90's for our keyword Even though we have more content then 90% of the sites about us, some of those rankings just don't make sense, I'm hoping Google hasn't ranked the new version of our site yet.
so , when I see a new google cache, google complete gathering compiling all the other infomation about that page? or google first let you see new cache, then do other work?
