So How I Start Selling Banner Ads on a Popular Blog

    Hi,

I have a niche PR6 blog that deals with a particular OS that gets around 5000 uniques a day or more depending on whether or not it's been digged, /.ed etc.

I would like to start selling banner ads at the top, sidebar, and possibly even the square image ads that seem to be quite popular on the blogs.

How do I price these ads for sale?

What price do you think I can get for the various kinds of banner ads?

What price do you get, if you have experience with a similar site in the past (either buying or selling)?

What's the best way to "pitch" the sale?

How would the price change for a PR6 blog with about 100-200 uniques a day, as opposed to the 5000 uniques a day?

Thanks a lot for any and all answers. :)

i would use text link ads ... that might get you a couple bucks here and there.. Also put advertisement link on your site. If you the viewer like what they see. They will advertise on your site.

Yeah, but how should I price the banner ads in both cases?

A PR6 blog that receives 5000+ unique visitors per day should be selling text links at at least $30-$50 per month. Being PR6, you should definitely be getting at least $40 per month in my opinion.

If your traffic drops, you can still expect to sell text link ads at the same rate just because of its PageRank.

Banner ads vary because it depends whether the advertiser wants to pay per click, lead, or impression. Generally, you should just sell banner ads "as-is", which you can sell at $40-$100 per month with ease.

These prices I am quoting you are fairly low for a PR6 site, so if you charge what I am quoting expect to get a good base of advertisers. :)

Sell rotating ad spots, that way you can charge your advertisers cheaper but still make a much bigger overall profit. rotate 4 banner ads (468 by 60) n sell em for like $50 each, then a static side bar ad for like $30, then a rotating one below... just experiment. You should maybe experiment with AuctionAds, Adsense etc first just to see how much you can monetize there.

EGS, Thank you - that gives me a pretty good idea - and yes, I do sell link ads for the price range you mention.

jon2k6 - rotating ads are great, I guess I will have to do impression tracking to bill them properly, right?

No, I wouldn't bother with that. Charge a fixed fee.

Try posting your offer to sell ad space in the DP marketplace.
You can also post your ad space for sale at this ad marketplace for free.

Prices depends on you but I will suggest that try to have less price in beginning.
This is for attracting more customers

I did horrible with TLA. I'd recommend finding your own link buyer(s) here at Digital Point.
