Kaspersky is great, they make a antivirus and an antihacker. It's what the virus creators use to set the standards of detectability. It is alittle high priced (yearly subscription) but I think it's well worth it.

Yeah I use the AVG free addition also. Its pretty easy to avoid viruses if you just watch what you download.

AVG Free (grisoft.com/doc/1) is as good a virus protection product as I have used in 14 years.

What are the advantages that have commercial anti-virus software over the free anti-virus software. I think free anti-virus softwares can't detect latest softwares. Why atall Grisoft.com like sites provide AVG free etc softwares free of cost. If everybody go for free software what is the future of Norton like anti-virus software development companies? These are my questions?

Free Anti-Virus solutions for the most part do not hold the same advanced heuristic scanning capabilities as paid ones and they are not fully up to date as most paid versions.

If you want a good Anti-virus you should go for Nod32, this Anti-virus vendor belongs to the top of the Anti-Virus vendors, excellent scanning capabilities.
I used Norton as well but it is slow with updating it's virus database and this is key to be protected from malware by using signature recognition.

Im using AVG 7.1 free. In my opinion and experience I dont like norton anti-virus because I notice that it takes a lot of memmory that makes my pc slow and it often times cant detect trojans. Thats base on my observation :)

You will also not find any difference in the heuristic scanning capabilities or the definition files between AVG Free and the AVG commercial versions. The main differences in them is that AVG Free can only be updated once a day (which it does automatically, quickly and efficiently) and the variety of scanning options (the free version will do a complete system scan automatically once a day).

You have been given a website address with all the information you could possibly need (with the exception of personal experiences), yet some of you ask technical questions about the product and others give false information. Please do some of your own research and don't make statements about a product you know nothing about. We are talking about the security of your computer. Are you going to leave that to a bunch of people you've never met that like talking about websites?

AVG (freeware) is a good AV program - you'll be fine with that. It's certainly cheaper than annual Norton subscriptions.

C'mon, it's not cryptic. I saw statements about the AVG Free product that were false and questions that could easily be answered by visiting the address supplied. My suggestion is that people considering their anti virus solutions take into account the personal experiences of others, but also to visit the product sites for technical information and comparisons.

If what you are using now works well, leave it alone. When your license to use the product is up, look into AVG Free and other products and make a decision based on sound information. I switched from Norton to AVG because I think it's a better product over all. But I am not a professional software technician or a security analyst, so my information is based on personal experience and opinion -- not something you should trust to safeguard your computer.

Actually, it wasn't very clear - if it were, would I have asked for clarification? frankly, the post sounded snotty.

What were these "false statements about AVG"?
