20 Questions about search marketing, what is yours?

    Hi there,

Since I recently started updating my blog, I started thinking about what might interest people. What can I write about that haven't been written before? That's when I came up with this thread.
The purpose of this thread is to gather questions about search marketing from DP users, and answer them on my blog. The answers will come in bulks of ten and ten, depending on the activity in this thread.

Ask your question about search marketing, anything from SEO to PPC.

    Rules:
    • The questions must be inside the search marketing domain.
    • Try to ask different questions. If two similar questions are asked, they will be merged.
    • Don't ask me to review your site or anything on it.
    • Off-topic will be ignored.

I guess I will need a couple of days to answer all questions once all twenty spots have been filled, and the answers will be based solely on my personal experience.

Go ahead and ask all questions, and please try to stay within the rules :]

Okay, here's what I want to know...how effective is anchor text at helping SERPs, now that the Google Bomb filter is on? Do anchors without PR still influence SERPs to greater or lesser extent?
I guess I want to know more about the relationship between inanchor keywords and ranking for that keyword...round numbers.

And why should we assume the answer we are getting is authoritative? Looks like you made $200 last month with SEO. Just getting tired of people acting like experts when they aren't making any money. I made over 100 times that last month with SEO, but I'm no expert. Still learning new things every day. I'm just suggesting that you wait a little bit and have a little more success before you start coming on here acting like the wizard that can solve everyone's SEO ills.

    Sorry to interrupt. Carry on...

It's almost impossible to write something on the net that hasn't been written before; the only solution is to add a new aspect to the theme.

That's in my first month, and I didn't include my companies revenue. If you don't like the thread, why in the world are you commenting?

Alright, maybe I flew off the handle a little bit. You sound like a well-intentioned guy. I'm just getting tired of everyone coming on forums claiming to be an expert just because they say they are. You very well might be one of the world's finest SEO's... but I just prefer to have some proof of success before asking others to give some authority to your answers. $200 last month from affiliate marketing doesn't do it for me.

But again, your perspective is welcome... it's just the way I interpreted your post as if you were claiming that your $200 of earnings made you an expert. Perhaps your expertise comes from other experiences that you are yet to share.

Sorry for the interruption, again, carry on....

Well, like stated serveral times on my blog - my earnings from my company are NOT included in the blogs revenue earnings, and of course it's my companies revenue that pays my bills. My blog is just an experiment to learn, test and network.

Ok everyone, get back to sending this guy questions. Now I understand that there's more to his efforts than his reported $200 of success. I get what he was trying to accomplish and there's nothing wrong with it. I was just thinking we had another $200/month expert. Guess I was wrong.

    Sorry for the interruption.

That was stupid, a guy sets up a thread to help people with specific questions they want an answer for, and you chase him off shaking him down about his income?
Nice job. I still want to hear his views on anchor text. I would like to hear as many views as I can and decide for myself who sounds like they know what they're talking about.

BTW, $200 month is a lot for some people. Not enough to sell SEO services for high prices, but a nice income for a blog.

First of all, I haven't "chased him off" we've PM'd each other a few times and I now understand what he way trying to do. He's still very much here and willing to respond to your questions... so fire away.

There was a guy on here a few days ago (username: James Dean Nash) who really got under my (and a lot of other peoples) skin acting like some huge expert with nothing to back it up and several of us just got tired of everyone claiming to be an expert simply because they say they are.

That wasn't the intent of the guy who started this thread, although it seemed like it was at first glance. I think what got me fired up was that his post said that he was going to give you "answers" as if there really is a real "answer" in this game. And there are only a handful of people in SEO that can give answers and neither me or the person who started the thread have answers. I now realize that he doesn't think he has all of the answers, but instead is giving opinions. To me there is a big difference. I just didn't want another self-proclaimed expert telling people that A,B and C is right and D,E, and F is wrong as if the answers are black and white.

Again, this guy is fine. I encourage you to ask away. In fact I'll ask one:

With Google going after and in some cases doing a hand edit on sites that obviously sell low quality text links, have you ever seen any evidence of a site suffering a similar penalty for selling low quality image links with SEO'd alt tags?

So, I got 4 questions.. 6 more to go before I try giving my answers (of course, solely based on my experience). Anyone else?
