It's official Google has opened up a can of whoop ass on directories
It looks like Biz-Dir is not the only directory that has been hit by this, I am seeing quite a lot of directories not even ranking for their trade names and stuff like that. If your directory has not been hit I would consider yourself to be lucky, let's face it we all have paid links. I feel that Biz-Dir has enough natural linkage to hold up at a PR6 without any paid links, if I drop my paid links (which I consider mostly to be legit advertising) will Google re-index all of my pages? All that hard work re-writing all of the descriptions for nothing? This is bullshit and they are blatantly picking on directories.

I guess those guys at Google never heard the word "Advertising"
I wonder what they think if you buy "adwords"...

I experienced this before with regular sites. The best thing you can do is wait. Change nothing, of course you can add more unique content, relevent links...

I think this is just a temporary SERP change. There has been a lot going on lately. No worries.

You're too fast boys.
We should wait some time until next update at least. I see tons of non-directories sites happened the same. Also those sites never selling or buying links. Also sites listed in DMOZ or Yahoo! Google's making changes, no doubt, but I doubt it's final result what we can see now. |

Though, it's clear that MANY people on Digital point have NO CLUE what they are talking about when it comes to "advertising" as you can advertise all you want too. It's HOW it's being done that gets the penalty. Mask the links so that they are not passing any PR is all that is asked. Tinyurl, Java, rel="nofollow", heck, even flash, all these things can result in high traffic advertising that will not effect the SERP and PR of Mother Google...and that is all that is asked. You can however advertise all you'd like and in any fashion that you'd like...but if you are going to play Google's game, you must follow their rules, and their rules ARE subject to change. (though, honestly, many of their rules are rel="nofollow")

I would think this is just normal. So far the only thing that has not happened is the pr update and everything else seems pretty much the same.

Il be slapped for this but im going to say dont worry
i worry more about things not working properly on my directories, i promote and stay sensible and leave the rest up to the search engines. We should know by now that search engines are funny things, unpredictable and designed to keep us on our toes, it works and it keeps us keeping things up to date. Order from chaos. To obtain order you must first create chaos.

As far as I'm concerned this has been happening months ago. For sure google is doing some adjustment, but just because some directories are no being indexed or rank high for some keywords (which I think is temporaly) doesn't mean "the sky is falling".
It is happening with other non-directory sites, not just directories. So no big deal if you think google is targeting only directories. Now if you're doing funny things with you directory more than you're supposed to do than that's another story. Dargre - I hope this explain my first post! . I find this quite amusing... Web Directory
G's dir ranks #1 and the funny thing is its crap... monopoly? Yes... My dir doesn't rank #1 for its own name anymore either. It will be a cold cold day in hell when I pay for adwords!
