It appears Google Images has updated in the last day or two. As of Sunday, I only had 3350 images indexed in Google Images and today I have 3800. This is nice for some webmasters and website owners who get traffic from this source - and I do, so, woohoo Anyway, just an FYI as many don't check that often as it's not often Google updates or adds to this entity.
Oh, thanks for the heads up - I lost several #1 positions, but so far traffic doesn't seem to have slowed down so I must have gained some new ones. I really wish there was more information availible about optimizing for google images, as almost all my traffic comes from it.
I just search for stuff I knew I where #1 for in the past and look where I am now A digitalpoint keyword rank checker for google images would be cool though.
I'm still wondering how to get my images listed in google in the first place? I got a few sites with decent pageranks but somehow I don't really get why a certain image is listed and while another is not. Anyone who can explain the factors that influence the proces of image inclusion in google?!
I don't have a magic formula, though I can speculate some things that might help: Name the image (file name) with good keywords, use alt tags, give a name and / or an id when possible. For example: <img src="/images/jennifer-lopez.jpg" alt="Jennifer Lopez topless" name="jlo" width="280" height="200" id="jlo"> Code (markup): Again, this is not a proven magic formula, but seems to help me anyway. Hope it helps.
wow they're showing some amazingly relevant descriptions for my pictures, even when I used no alt or title tag! http://images.google.com/images?q=site:www.tubanews.com&svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&start=20&sa=N
Way better than on the site I watch, lots of the images picked up are from e-postcards and they all seem to have the description "send".. http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&q=site:zindy.zone.dk&btnG=Search I better get some ALT tags on those asap.
Yup, noticed it a few days ago. Got about 20% boost of instant traffic from image searches. I would probably have gotten more if I had optimized by images with better alt text. I've started to pay more attention to this, but it's too bad it's going to be another quarter or so before the next image update!
Cool ... I moved from #1 and #7 in Google Images for "christmas" to #1 and #3. I also checked Shoemoney's Paris Hilton page ... unfortunately, no where to be found in the first 5 pages of results ... but that's some tough competition.
scotty - read through the earlier posts in this thread. alek - have shoemoney get with me, maybe a few relevant links will boost; I can supply a few paris hilton links if he's willing to help out your charity cause.
Here's the DP thread where Shoe was trying to rank well for Paris Hilton in images - would be funny if it did.
Thank god, I've been waiting for Google Images to remove all of the images it picked up from my site before I blocked G's imagebot to my robots.txt file. All I get are idiots hotlinking to my pics from MySpace and eating up my bandwidth. Seems like I'm finally gone!
