DMOZ Corrupt and Goolge needs to drop them
I recently read a post over at shoemoney claiming that a DMoz editor contacted him and told him that if he didn't pay him 5,000 dollars that he would remove his listing and what do you know when Jeremy didn't pay he removed it.
This just gos to show why does Google suggest submitting to relevant directories such as open directory project in the webmasters guidelines...When almost everyone knows that DMOZ is filled with spam and if you have the cash you can get in and if they want more $ and you don't pay your gone. WOW! Google needs to dump DMOZ and figure out something else with their billion dollar pockets. |

Google does not count DMOZ as any more than other similar directories.
Submit to yahoo directory instead.

Technically, isn't paying $299 per year to be in the Yahoo directory considered "buying a link"? |

But my question is why does Google suggest submitting to DMOZ when they have to know what is going on over their and how far out of date DMOZ is. |

Technically its a review fee and yahoo does not guarantees a listing would be approved if you have made the payment.

listing in yoahoo is worthless. When it comes to dmoz - people, you're talking nonsense here. Dmoz is an authority site to Google and Google makes its copy as a reference. Sure, there might be some nutcase editor but you can report him and he'll be out.

Also I feel that Yahoo is a hell of a lot more of an authority than an out of date directory that takes a year or heck even longer to even get in. |

I got in within minutes. You got to contact an editor and submit your site. If your site is worthless , then of course you will have problems. Google can recommend yahoo but it takes dmoz listings as authoritative

easy. Submitted my site and contacted the editor of that category. Talked to him and he added it in a few minute. Then e-mailed me, asking to check if I liked the description.

Ok how do you contact the editor of the category?

Their names are listed in the category at the bottom, if not then you will have to go to a higher level category and again and again until you find some guy responsible for editing the directory.

Your statement about Yahoo is factually incorrect. Please tell us why you think it to be so and please back up your statements with relevant facts.
I have worked in a web design company and have seen the results of what a Yahoo listing can bring to clients. It was so good we ended up making it part of our package to clients. Clients got good listings in both Yahoo and Google in a short time (2- 4 weeks) and also got a bonus when Yahoo started putting in Directory listing on the front page of local searches. Our clients experienced a surge of traffic to their websites which also translated into sales for their business. This is something I have seen first-hand and something I would recommend (a listing in Yahoo's Directory is probably worth more than most directories combined). Quote:

What I meant by submitting to yahoo instead is that instead of paying 5000 to be on DMOZ, 299 for yahoo would probably be the same, if not better.
Google directory copies DMOZ, yes, but DMOZ value is just the same as the page they put you in, being listed in a PR 4 DMOZ page is the SAME as being listed in a PR 4 yahoo directory page.

Oh, so the authority of a site has nothing to do with it? Your basing your conclusions on what?
