Is Yahoo! Directory Submit worth US$299?

My site (www.auctionweiser.com) is currently PR4, Alexa 271,247 and I am looking to increase targeted traffic quickly. The site provides articles, news, tips, tricks, etc. for buyers and sellers on eBay and other major online auctions.

Am I a complete fool to spend the $299 to submit this site to Yahoo? What are the chances it will not be accepted and I'm out the $299???? Are directories like Alive, Aviva, etc. a better investment?

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I'd say that definitely Aviva and Alive are much better investments as for price/value analysis. I wouldn't invest in Yahoo if I wasn't a major organization.

If you have a lot of advertising money to spend then submit your site to Yahoo. Otherwise use your money on smaller directories

An interesting question that preys on my mind also.
I'm reasonably convinced that if accepted it's worth the money. But what percentage of sites are accepted?
Does anyone have experience of being rejected, and if so do you know why?
It would be useful to understand how big a gamble it is to submit...

Well if you have $299 to risk, sure it is. I hate paying loads for a directory and get rejected without refund. BOTW/Yahoo Directory, Dam hell pissing me.

That depends how big a risk it is...its pretty hard to decide if its worth the cost without knowing if its a big or small risk.

I don't mind risking $299 with a 5% chance of failure, but not on a 95% chance of failure...

Who has listed with Yahoo? Did it boost your traffic? Did you notice any visible improvement in your serp's?

In one of my previous jobs, we did a website for a client and had them added to Yahoo's Directory as part of the service. The result was quite good - the website was well indexed by all the main SEs and got traffic from Yahoo's directory as well (as opposed to SERPs).

As a bonus, Yahoo began experimenting with results from its directory appearing on the 1st page of its search results page and the traffic was more than worth the payment for the Directory Submission

Just bit the bullet and submitted my site to Yahoo a couple of days ago waiting for the approval. If accepted then its fine if not then maybe next year. For me its not the traffic its the relevancy and submitting to quality. Gimpsy had approved my site though. :)

Good luck with that, I'll do the same in the next few days.

Same here...the value of an authority site link is what I'm looking for.

Directories seldom pass any traffic outside the industry. Are you trying to say that you dont believe Yahoo will send any traffic whatsoever???

It will be interesting to see what the value of a genuine authority site link is? What anchor text are you using or does Yahoo only allow an official title which you most likely already rank for anyway.

And thats what makes them truly charge review fees. Not fees for links.

Do you get to choose your anchor text? I guess not :( Is there anyway you can estimate the change in your serp's over a period of time?
