Just want to make everyone aware of the experience I just had with my first check.. I got the check today and was very happy since I didn't expect it until the 20th.. However the check was made out to my user name.. How can I cash that???? Well I called and talked to a rep and now I have to mail the check back with a note to ask them to correct it... He said it was human error however We both discovered that under my account details I had it set up with my name and left the business section blank since it is not required and the check wasn't going to a business.. To save yourself some hastle put your name in the business name section if you do not have a business that it is being mailed to. This will prompt the check to be made out to you... Hope this saves others some hassle so they don't have to go through what I just did.

Same thing happened to me. I just signed the check over to myself by signing the user name then my signature below that and my bank took the check no problem. Although, I didn't cash it I just deposited it in my account..they may have a harder time taking it if you just want the cash back right away. Having the name Yahoo on the check certainly helps...:)

I did update my account with my name in the business field as you suggested. Thanks for the tip.

The same thing happened to me. But, in my case, I put my website name for Company name. The check came with the website name and my bank wouldn't cash it.

So, I had to send the check back to Yahoo. They say they are going to reissue another check (still waiting). In the meantime, my second check came the same way!!!

Now, I've got two checks which can't be cashed.

Be careful when filling out your Account details AND remember your tax details.

Many thanks for the "heads up", guys.
    EVERYBODY needs to do this.
    ALSO -
When you check your tax information at ADSENSE, you get to SEE IT, so you can CHECK it.

When you TRY TO check your tax information at YPN, they show you a blank page, so you CANNOT SEE what information they are using!!! THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED!!! It's a secure connection, what's the problem? Your ONLY CHOICE is to re-enter all your tax information AGAIN!!!

It's probably prudent to take a "screen shot", as well. Who knows what can happen, with the current set-up.

Yes, thanks for the heads up!
It looks like YPN will stay in beta for a long time. This checkproblem looks like a realy newbie error and not for a billion dollar corporation.

That is NOT true at a lot of banks, including mine. I have dealt with my bank for around 2 years or more, I CANNOT cash and take the money for any check, if I do NOT have enough in the account to cover the check amount.
If the check is for $300.00 and I have $299.00 in my account, they hold the check for 3-4 business days, sometimes longer for out of state checks, before I can get the money.

And, for example let's say my name is Joesph Smith, if I get a check for Joe Smith, I get a hassle also, it is supposed to be made out to my name on the account, I used to have an awful time cashing out of state checks I got in the mail for my birthday from friends and relatives, that is one reason why I went to this bank from another that was even worse.

But just like taxes and permits for everything...... my state is supposed to be one of the worse in the country. We have mandatory 12 month vehicle registrations that cost ya, $40-$75 for a card and sticker, then you gotta get the vehicle passed at the garage. You need a permit and must pay a fee to have the outside of you home (you own) painted or any repairs done, you need a permit and must pay a fee to dig on your own property, to move a house trailer, even one on wheels....... We now pay a yearly fee for the PRIVILAGE to work in this section of the town..... lol soon we will be told when we can sleep and what we can eat

I don't have those kinds of problems depositing at my bank either. In fact, I think I can deposit a check made out to King Kong as long as my "deposit only" stamp is on the back.

By the way bluegill, what state do you live in. I want to make sure I never end up there.

.... lol soon we will be told when we can sleep and what we can eat[/QUOTE]..

Before that you can be given "air tax" fee. For breathing the air in your city.

    Are you in America BTW?

Yes I am in the U.S.A in the state of Pennsylvania.

Not only are we one of the worse states for taxes and permits required, but I was just reading an article where we are the worse state for giving disability checks to folks because they have: stress, or claim too and cannot work because of it, and if you say your an alcoholic and cannot work because of it, in fact in my apartment (flat) building here, we have had two teneants who both were under 40 years old, and will never have to work as long as they live, reasons:
One guy was servely overweight, he would sit inside all day watching tv and eating cheese puffys, the other guy had a bad back, but he had no problem playing golf in the yard, going fishing, and working on his car............

Are you saying your bank will accept a check for deposit which

does not match the name on your account,
then present the check for payment to the issuer,
    and if the check clears,
deposit the funds into your account (which does not match the name on the check)????

And... you are able to go to a teller window and do this???

I really want to know if my bank is giving me the run-around.

I've received checks under my business name before and my bank never even batted an eye. I guess all banks are different. Hope y'all get it worked out.

Thanks for the heads up Barre Tire I just went in and deleted the company info just in case. It's not a mandatory text box anyway.

As for the tax info I had noticed that aswell. I am waiting on my first check and had gone in to make sure all of my I's were dotted and T's crossed so there were no problems. I just entered the info again.

A bank is not supposed to cash a check that is not made out to the account holder. With the automation banks use today, they don't always catch the different name when a check is deposited. The teller probably isn't knowingly doing it, they just aren't catching it.

Of course a bank can look the other way and assume the risk if they want, but it's "normal" for them not to do it. The Patriot Act has tightened a lot of rules.
