Everyday they register with 10 more new names here:

    http://www.compactech.com/forum/

    and submit new XXX threads...

It's annoying... although brings a lot of trafic to the website.

It's a RSS science news forum. Not a porno site. That's why...

It's very difficult to ban them because they use thousands of IP addresses...

I tried it in the past and even disabled the forum from registering new users. The same day I allowed it, they were back again...:(

What about keywords blocking? I had a forum 5-6 years ago wit the same problem. The script allowed keywords blocking. So when I put "sex", "viagra", etc...all these post couldn't go through...

There are hundreds (if not thousands of words like that)...
    I found like 100 (and I don't really want to remember them...:p)
I believe that I'll do that...

Image verification and keyword filtering works. What software do you use?

without looking at your site: is it a phpbb forum? i wrote a small modification, works well on another forum (spam down from 800msg/month to 3 over the last few months). its not captcha, so users dont get annoyed.

    pm me...

yea IPB has the keywords filter and image verification---that should really take a TON of it away---try that and let us know how it goes

I've already tried the "keywords filter". I found around 100 bad words, but they keep find more and more new phrases. There are thousands...

    I shall try the captcha...

How does the digitalpoint forums take care for this issue?

yea lol glad you have a sense of humor to see it as the joke it was intended to be. rep your way.

but you really cant stop them. they use bots, and i use SMF as my forums and the bots target "forum id 1" so what ever forum you have as id 1, once i closed that on my site i stopped all bot spam and now just get 2 a week from manual posting.:D

Sure it's a joke. Most of them are German and Italian by the way, so you might want to try them. The Italian are very romantic and Germans have big d@#ks...

I understand what you suggest. Thanks.

Another intersting question... let's say I don't block them. That's of course reduces the quality of the site (which is for sale by the way). On the other hand it increases the number of unique users dramatically. Since I use adsense, maybe it's worth keeping the spammer. It's just a thought.

I have found out that you can get rid of this problem by simply renaming your signup page from register.php (depends on teh script) to register_now.php (or any other name) as it seems like the spam bots scan search engines for forums and just use default paths to signup. Since I changed the register.php (vbulletin) to something else I didn't receive any spammer signup.

i allow the bots to register as it is a unique and also a member count ;)
i just stopped them posting because they target forum id 1 on SMF forums
