It's a good way to annoy everyone. If a thread is important that people should see it all the time, it would be pinned as a sticky.
Fine if it isn't abused, sometimes thread titles are bad and people ignore them. I haven't done it before but I have responded to a thread that has been bumped.
It's a bit of a timing thing. If you post something late Friday evening because you thought of it there and then, I'm fine with that person bumping a gentle reminder on Monday morning to get it out of the depths of DP's posts. It'd be nice if it were concealed as additional info instead of a blatant bump. But it's highly case dependent I think. I'm one of those who never browse the forums, only click 'New Posts' every few minutes. For that type of forum reader the poster might want to consider bumping.
I've bumped a couple of times only because I was very surprised to not see any replies to something I thought was very important. And being a 'new post' kind of surfer, I can appreciate when other posts get bumped now and then. I'm sure there's probably a number of posts I miss because of this, but I just don't have the time to surf all the categories
^^^ great thread... maybe if we keep it high on the list of threads long enough we can pump up the PR on this puppy! boost our outbound links
Nobody has explained to me what bumping is; so I'll give you my definition. When I was growing up; in my drug daze; we used to call a bump a line of coke. In other words: Wanna bump?
Bumping is where you reply to a post for the sole purpose of getting it back to the top of the posts again.
