Hey there,
Just wanted to mention to some users they shouldn't include their link in their sale thread if they would like to remain on DMOZ Directory. For some reason DMOZ takes you off the directory if you link to your site. ![]() It happened to me a week ago, really annoying which budged down the sale a fair bit, so let the custommers PM for the link. Sorry if you think this is Spam, but has happened to someone else as well! Thanks, Gareth |

Typical isn't it? Virtually impossible to get listed there and post a link to a site for sale and it's taken down! Why? It's not like selling a site changes the content is it.

DMOZ has become useless and irrelevant, so i don't think people should worry too much about it.

Some of us DMOZ editors do it for legit reasons.
For example. Listing your site for sale and stating it's DMOZ listed might catch the attention of a DMOZ editor. That editor goes in and checks the listing and sees your site either no longer complies with guidelines or maybe it's even a completely different site. So your listing is removed because you cast a spotlight on it and drew scrutiny to it. However I'd imagine there are a few who remove listings just because they don't agree with DMOZ being used as a sales point. I can only speak for those that do it because of the former, not the latter

It seems to me the speed with which the deletion happens means there are more than a few dmoz editors as members here at DigitalPoint. Why then not scan sedo and delete all of the dmoz listings for websites listed there for sale? It seems there are no concrete guidelines to base these deletions on.
I can certainly understand it when the domain is a drop and the content or theme has changed, but the other reasons don't seem as legitimate to me. My 2 cents ... tasty |

Please don't do that - there is nothing more annoying than a sales thread in which the seller doesn't bother to list the URL for some paranoid reason followed by pages of 'please PM me the URL'. If DMOZ editors are really cracking down on sites being sold on DP they can just ask you to PM them the URL anyway.

Again, you guys are ignoring what I said. There ARE legitimate reasons the listings are getting deleted after being listed for sale. (see above)
As for why so quickly? Well when you draw the attention of a DMOZ editor by screaming DMOZ LISTED and a DMOZ editor finds your site is no longer relevant to it's DMOZ listing the BEST thing for all involved is to remove it immediately. That way the buyer doesn't buy the site and find it is no longer DMOZ listed after the sale. |
