Funny Idea - Build a bricks wall - custom script - must see

The idea behind this site is to allow users to add their own sites, and as such having a brick that points to their site part of this wall.

The wall is built from the bottom up, right to left, like any wall should be, and is filled as more sites are added.

Every brick is actually a dynamically generated image, which has the url engraved on it, and this image points to the respective site.

The site uses php/mysql and ajax to operate. Also, when a user adds a site, the wall is automatically reloaded to show the extra brick that was added.

This new concept is fun, easy, and can become viral.

Also, even though the a primary check on the length is made, the image generation also adjusts the font size etc in order to fit the brick.

Some people get turned off by the .info domain, but I found it to be meaningful. New owner can always get a new domain and use this script on it.

Cool idea, $35 from me. And what's your comment on cpu & server bandwith, especially when people will add more and more sites?

 

Each image amounts to only a small 6-7 KB of data transfer. So bandwidth wise it shouldn't be a problem, unless traffic spikes a lot.
Same for processing, the amount of functions and database calls are low.

It allows to view, edit and delete entries.
Editing includes editing the title and url.

And regarding an inquiry, the font used on the bricks can be changed and will reflect on all bricks it is a 10-seconds step that I can show to the new owner.

 

In admin section can we make it a pay servie instead of free?

 

No, this needs more coding (to integrate paypal ipn)
But it is a good idea which would keep the wall small and bring more revenue. The steps would be if you were to hire a coder is to:
1- add a field to the database table with an active/paid flag
2- once someone adds a link he is redirected to the paypal page
3- once he pays paypal notifies the ipn page which would set that flag to true (allowing the brick to be displayed)
frankly I'm not looking into doing it as it is not a minor change (and would take time from other projects right now). But i hope the above steps lead the way
My idea was to allow this page to be free, allowing this wall to grow very high, and benefit from ads on the page and from pagerank once this is more popular.
