Article Marketing is Dead

I truly believe Article marketing is dead. Why. Well firstly article directories are probably adding the rel="nofollow" tag to the outbound links on their website which means that the links you leave their have no importance as far as search engines are concerned.

Secondly, most article directories are deserted. Hence, if you think you will get visitors from them you are wrong because no one reads the articles there!

It depends on what you are using them for. Some of the articles I submitted to various sites got more than 3,000 reads.

Are you serious? Mind sharing the name of the article directory?

it's changing according the directory where you are adding.

i believe only stupid article directories are adding nofollow to their links:)

I think they do not help page rank as much as they use to. You still can get traffic from some of them.

I haven't tried article marketing since last year, when I first created my site I submitted a couple of articles to about 10 directories, not even a few hours work.

According to SEOElite I have a few PR3 & PR4 backlinks from directory sites. Probably brought quit a bit of traffic in too.

They might not work all the time but they are just something that is theer if you want to use it. They are just another way to get link backs. Also you dont have to get scared that the article directory has a nofollow tag on it. Just use Opera or Firefox that will allow you to check the source of the website and you cna check for yourself if that site has the no follow tag.

Article Marketing is not dead. Articles are still considered to be traffic getters.

I've had mixed results with article submissions. Sometimes they would bring in 100 visits, other times none at all. You do have to beware of the duplicate content penalty though if you submit the same article to many directories.

I am of the opinion that article marketing is a sheer waste of time.

why write an article and submit it to article directories and let somebody else get the credit and traffic from search engines for your hard writtem work?

Why not just write good content and keep on your own site. That way you get the benefit of any search engine traffic for the article written.

Agree with the above and i have been saying the same thing since Google tightened up their supp index and dup content algorithm.

Article submissions are a waste, publish it on your own site and submit your link to the top 25 or so Social Bookmarking sites. You will get WAY more hits and backlinks then buried in some crappy supplemental article directory page.

How about doing both? Keep the best articles on your site, but publish short summaries / guides that mention the bigger article on your site, and submit those to directories. Social bookmarking traffic in my experience doesn't last very long, whilst article directories can give you links / get the articles picked up by other sites in the long term.

If you do both, it's not that much more effort, and you have more chance of gaining long and short term.

I suppose it depends what kind of method to article marketing you are talking about.

I haven't found any major article directories that use the nofollow tag on your links...do you care to name some if you know of any?

Most of my banklinks are built from article submissions, so I haven't fallen victim to the nofollow tag...yet

And yes, you can post the article on your own site. But depending on how well your site is doing, it may be a very long time before your article is indexed. Ezinearticles.com gets indexed very quickly, so I see my articles on the front page of Google for longtail keywords in a matter of days (bum marketing).

As far as duplicate content, I have a rewriting service so I have unique copies of my articles to submit to the major directories. I post the original article on my blog, ping my blog, then submit to the directories.

I wrote one article that has over 11000 reads. It gets me traffic everyday.
I have other articles that give me traffic daily. I only submit to ezinearticles.com
I write articles all the time and submit them. They bring me traffic over and over, plus the fact that other people download them and add them to their sites which increases the traffic. Article marketing is not dead, you just have to know how to use them.;)

This is simply not true. I wrote an article and it brought me 10+ affiliate sales over a 2 week period and they still trickle in now. Well over $150 for a half hour of work!

This was one article submitted to one directory!

This was my first try at using articles to earn money and well it worked better than I thought. It didn't just send me traffic, it sent me traffic that converted to sales.... that is the main thing!

I think what the OP should have said is that article marketing is dead for him or her.

Article Marketing is not dead, and you can get quality traffic, back links and users to your site from Article Marketing. A well written article can get syndicated to other sites also, which will help you get more links to your site. Some articles I submitted for a site last year are now indexed as Google backlinks and have PR 3 and PR 2 now. So IMO, Article Marketing is still alive and working, as already mentioned by so many people already :)
