Those who lost their rankings in April, coming back?

Discussion in 'Google' started by m0rtal, Jul 9, 2007.

I lost my rankings in April for one of my sites and just right now noticed it's coming back to the top. For one of the keywords it's back on every DC I checked, for another keyword it's coming back on a few DCs, maybe nothing to get excited about yet but any of you who specifically lost your rankings in April seeing anything today?

are you just seeing it in the data centers and not the .com search?

I didn't lose rankings, but I have had a certain rank across all data centers for a week, yet thats not where it is on the .com search.

It is on search. I just noticed this was going on when I posted this and that's roughly when it started I think. I've been averaging about 400-500 uniques daily and it just shot up to 780 for the day so far.

Seeing lots more traffic from Google.

Edit: Seeing the other keyword across most other DCs now.

I lost my 100% traffic from google for weeks, but I'm back again. I was doing so well when I did not have traffic from Google, but what can I say.

I fell off of the Google map for about 3 weeks and returned with a vengeance. My disappearing act was probably more to do with a internal linking change that I had to make.

hmm.. when it "dissapeared" did you confirm it had done so in the DCs as well? I have had sites disappear from the search, but the data centers would still show them having the same rank. When this occured, the longest it would disappear was like a week.

I know a lot of the high volume terms I watch have been rather volatile since April. I believe it has something to do with the QDF algo.

Yes, it was gone from the DCs. Actually it was a few pages deeper not totally gone, but a few days/weeks later totally dissapeared from top 100 for these 2 terms. Went from about 4k -> 2k ->1k and recently about 500 uniques.

The only reason that your site may not be coming up in search is that you are hitting a DC where your rankings are low and there might be one or two here and there.

    I use: http://www.seochat.com/seo-tools/multiple-datacenter-keyword-position/

Interesting, thanks for sharing. Sorry to hear such a drastic effect.

I checked every one on seocritique.com (which is over 600) and I only found one. It was the one being used for search. When I typed in it's IP, it redirected to google.com , and didn't have the "English" label on it.

I know there were some ones that were down, and others that didn't resolve. It's just bugging me that at least 90% have had this rank for a week, but the search has yet to reflect it.

I've used seochat, but I hate having to enter in the captcha every single time.

That's really strange. Any time I see a jump in traffic I go run a check on seochat for the keyword people are hitting and usually notice an increase in rankings on a few DCs at least.

Are you sure this is a keyword/phrase that gets a lot of searches?

Also what kind of increase have you seen? Anything past page 2 is really hit or miss depending on traffic volume.

The keyword that lost me the most traffic was page one position 3-5. 100k+ overture searches. It's now back at 5 again. Who knows for how long though :/

I am absolutely sure this one gets HUGE volume. The increase is about 30 spots. It's ranged between 9-11.

Hmm... the overture tool is really flawed, so i don't put much weight into it. According to it however, the number for this term is a bit over a million.

Don't know what to say really, that's kind of messed up.

This may sound stupid (don't know your experience?) but are you sure you have the order correct? Like overture will mix up the words in a phrase sometimes so maybe you think you're ranking for something that overture has as word1 word2 word3 but you're ranking for word3 word1 word2 which gets barely any searches? Just a thought.

I had a similar experience lately. 350k+ on oveture for 2 word phrase. I was coming up in search on page 3 and got BARELY any of the traffic. Another phrase that was 4 words with 20k searches on overture I was #2 and again barely any traffic even though it was showing up on most DCs and in search on my end.

heh.. that's not stupid. It actually tells me you are thinking :)

Yes I am sure because it is only one word.

Ok well now I'm running out of ideas, maybe Google wants you to pay for PPC? :p

On a side note I'm at 260 uniques from 12 am to 2:15 am (EST) and night time is slow for this site so things are looking good, this better not be a tease :)

Just hang in there and hopefully you'll start seeing some nice traffic spikes soon!
