Hi, can anyone tell me where to get the software that records what it sees on your screen? I prefer free or cheap, and software that has the ability to later on go over and blank out details.

Depends on what you mean. www.fraps.com is good for capturing info from games directx or opengl in movies or images. What type of screens on what operating system do you need to capture?

I am looking at making tutorials for some online programs that I have. I want to show a step by step video of me using the program, with speech.

I just checked it out. It looks great, however a little out of my price range at $300. I'm surprised that I can't find an open source option for this, as I see many people using similar software for video capture

I just found this software called camstudio on SF. It looks like it does the job, however it has a lag of 5 milliseconds between frame captures, making it look really laggy.

Yeah, I also had some problems with CamStudio. Crashed a lot of times and the videos weren't that great.

I couldn't get rid of the lag with CamStudio either.

Buy Camtasia it's worth it. Try to buy it with a student discount and you should be able toget it for about $170.

When I save up a lot then I might consider camstasia. Although I keep thinking that there has to be a cheaper alternative? If you have an open source product, the next level up in terms of functionality should be $10-20, not $300.

Thanks Kerosene, the sample looks really good, I'll look into that. As for RoboDemo, it is a bit out of my range (I have already given enough of my money to Adobe). Thanks

There are ways to get free adobe though...

think you can get camtasia for free too. But doesn't support the full functions
