Hi DP members, I have seen several posts regarding how to start a new forum and forum admin need help/guidlines regarding how to make their community popular. I am not an expert in this industry. Anyway, i would like to share several tips/guidlines and if i did any mistake or wrong statement, i am sorry. You should ask a few questions before you start a new community: 1) Do you have any content that might help grow a website built on a message board alone? 2) How to turn inactive users to become more active? 3) Do you have any idea regarding how to create an online community without the community? If you have the answers for the above questions, the % to own a popular community will be higher. Below is a few basic guildlines regarding how to start a community from 0. 1) "Convert" your visitors into members. Please kindly bear in mind that no one wants to join an empty forum. I am not allow to share any black hat technique here but the keyword here is "resources". Tell your friends! Ask them to join and post. You will need their full support to have a good start. 2) Getting members to return. Keep adding new articles and posts, to keep the forum alive. If a member does not feel wanted, they will leave. The keyword here is give them what they want. Off course, you can't do this alone. You have to find "sponsor". In other word, you are applying several golden rules here - Give your visitors what they want - Take the lead and become a good leader Make your community an even more enjoyable and comfortable place to venture. Good luck.
Nice article! If some people read it before doing anything else they will probably never start a forum
Thanks guys. The best thing in life is shared. zexy, i believe the keyword here is build the forum with a purpose. Planning without a reason to populate a community will result in a potential ghost town. Forum is an automated content management system where your users will be the constributors for the content. Admin is the one who take the lead and others will follow. Another keyword here research. Please visit http://www.big-boards.com and take a look at the forums in the "big" category. Start a community with purpose to set the stage for success. Good luck everyone.
