This is just mere venting a little bit. But at the same time, looking for some answers and possible explanations... I hope this don't get me into trouble, but I'm just dying to know! Anyway, on with the original thing I wrote up... "No offense on this person's design, because it's actually kind of nice. But how could something like this be asked for such a price? http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=373428 But mine was too high!? It was traded for a $40.00 Partially coded portfolio template with design! I have this currently setting at $20.00!! And it's NOT GOING!?! In my humble opinion it's worth about 30 to 40.00!? What the heck!? I know people like things cheap, but Holy Crap! What needs done? I mean, it's not like I don't have good iTraders, I never ripped anyone off. I haven't done anything wrong to anyone or whatever... What do you want or need? a) For me to PAY YOU to get rid of the original $100.00 worth of PSDs, that you want for 0.00 balances? b) My bank account included with the PSDs? c) My bank account, a cosigned paycheck from my job, and free $200.00 worth of 98 Mitsubishi Mirage front end replacement car parts I have laying around here. And I'll even cover the $200.00 shipping to ship to you, on top of losing $40.00 plus on the 4 PSDs that I originally spent $100.00 on? (Excuse me, but the ones I have ARE far better then some of the crap going through here currently at same prices, or higher!) Jesus! It's pretty sad actually, people demand everything Dirt Cheap to the point of the good stuff going at Negative balanced prices!?! I'll have to get into the "crap design and selling business" I guess, because it's the only thing going like hot cakes these days! Crap = Sells! Good stuff = Don't sell for a crap! This is a bunch of stuff.. excuse me for the ranting, but come on! Twisted" This was originally wrote on my blog first, but removed swear words from it for here. LOL!
I dont think that this is the correct area for this. You might want to get mods to move it to suggestion and feedback area. (BTW - I understand why you're a bit annoyed)
Oh okay. I wasn't sure, but I figured since it was related to this forum, I'd post here. Well, actually I noticed someone started a thread here about "uncoded and coded" differences or whatever... Figured it'd be okay to do... Hmm, maybe a mod will see it and move it then. And yeah, it IS annoying to blue blazes... it's really sad actually. Heck, I even had designers and coders on my Live Messenger contacts list telling me I'm too nice, and selling them at way way low prices! Before knocking them down like I did there... And they still don't want to go! Don't get me wrong though, I can understand if people "need" or "want" them or not, but surely someone has to be interested in them or whatever .. LOL! Even the folks that put bids and offers in there, basically backed out too! So, I don't know.. If you think about it, that's like trying to sell your car at BLUE BOOK value at least! And all you get for phone calls and offers is waaaay below the blue book value, almost forcing you into selling at crap prices for your car! Because the market is so shot to crap these days, it's not funny! "Hello sir! I'm calling about your Dodge Viper for sale! I'd offer you $200.00 for it!!!"
I won't say something direct about this issue, however i am PARTLY agreeing with you(not completely).Beside,i just saw the preview of the template you showed as an example(your template),it looks decent and nice...good job on that. Good luck mate
I think everyone has different tastes and of course different niches they do so if none of your designs would be good for a niche they are looking for then they either a. won't buy it or b. bid low to offer it to others for free? Just a guess. Ya gotta remember that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that goes for designs too
You have to understand there are 2 kinds of people on forums. The majority are bargain shoppers, and they won't give you the price that it deserves even if they know its worth it. 80% of the "buyers" are looking for something that is worth more than it costs. The biggest post on domains is "Looking for a short brandable "2.0 style" domain. Budget under $100" Every 1st year freshman knows that, that is a ridiculously low budget in todays web world, yet you have to take the education and business knowledge into play of the poster, and the fact that some "Newbie" or somebody who needs gas in their car that day, will give him one for that price. This is where people come to find a steal. Real finance does not apply here most of the time. Each forum has it's own little world of made up finance, and rarely is it comparable to the rest of the world. That is not the REAl world, but that is the culture on forums. That is why you see people offering 10 months revenue for sites. It is not based on any sound business structure at all, and most experienced buyers and seller don;t even respond to those type of offers. Selling takes patience. 9 Times out of 10, if you are priced within market rates, (Outside the forums, I mean in the world) You will get you price. Sometimes it's in 2 days, sometimes it's in 2 months. People contact me all the time from old posts and ask is something still available. Most new "webmsters " operate on rumor, conjecture, and what ever limited business and marketing skills that they can pick up on blogs, and threads. And also based on what "money " is to them. There is no real business sense behind any of it. I am sure to a lot of people $100 is a lot of money, and to others it's nothing, especially when it comes to buying real estate online. Most sellers wouldn't keep a $100 domains registered, but some operate on the principle of "cheap volume" which, the last time I checked, is only working for Walmart, and they are shooting themselves, and the market in the foot. "Webmasters" like that will be doing a different job in 2 years. This is the age when everybody see's "online" as the gate way to their riches, but very few actually understand what it takes to get there, or, how far behind they are, nor what level they are really working on. However, there are many members and observers who do not participate in the daily "Swap Meet" that know exactly what they are doing, and the business, and if you have something, they will PM you, or email you privately. That is who most of my posts are directed at, because the bottom line is, forums are for people to learn and exchange ideas, it is not an area where real world and business finance merge. Everybody wants to be the next Yahoo, or You Tube, but about 1% actually understand what it takes to get there, less than that will ever see, or know how to get the budget, and the rest are operating on HOPE. They HOPE, that they will get lucky and miraculously be a huge success with a portfolio of $10 domains, $20 MFA sites, and rehashing business models that have already failed, and a marketing budget of $0. It will never happen, but it is good for a few laughs around the water cooler. The most successful people online have an education, just like in any other business. The days of lucking up and miraculously becoming a start up millionaire, never really happened, but everyone lives on that folklore, everyday. JMO
Thanks for sharing guys/gals. It's still just boggles me though, I mean yeah the Bargain shoppers and such is fine. But when you have it specifically marked in your thread "Straight Bin Sale" at set price, and they start coming in with offers is a little insulting.. That's like being at a Car Auction where someone has a fully rebuilt Model-T car, and someone yells " I BID 500 dollas!!" They going to laugh at them and tell them to go jump off bridge. Where are all these "non-bargain-shoppers" at these days? Cause all I see on here anymore is the bargain shoppers...? I think the % is off a little, should be 99% bargain shoppers, and 1% normal shoppers after quality. And even then that 1% of normal decent shoppers are about dead and dying off... sigh. As for the designs and niches etc. I'd hate to just hop in someone's thread that say for example was selling off the current Sitepoint.com forum design/ theme and say I'd take it for $20.00! I'd get shot! LOL! But either way, I'll have to start making crappy stuff and stop buying good stuff at cheap prices hoping to make a profit from now on I guess... Just make junk and sell it, it should go. I'll save my quality designs for Talkfreelance.com at least those guys over there know what they want and offer decent prices.. However, these PSDs I'm doing aren't going cause they all know of those over there cause I got them there to start with LOL!... Ah well, worth a try either way I guess.
It's just something you have to deal with. I go through it with every post I make on this forum. I have been around for a while, and I have never seen so many people trying to have the next big thing, with no money to spend. You have to recognize that what is going on right now on the web, is much like what happened in the mid 90's with day trading. Everyone saw a few news stories, some magazine articles, a couple of "Kids" in jeans with 800 mill, and a few stories of folklore.....next thing you know, everyone and their mother is a "webmaster" and has a blog with "expert advice" (that they get from an experts blog). It will balance out in a year or so, and many will be back changing tires, working in cubicles, and waiting tables., just like the last time. It's nothing to get frustrated about, just diversify your market, so you are not dependent on one source for your income. Most of the new wave of webmasters has less than 6 months experience. Remember when everyone started doing mortgages a few years back? Same thing.
Hi there pal, you have a great design and i don't even think why such things happen to you and they want to get rid of your designs or offer. Maybe it's not your luck buddy, i think there's a right person for your design try to wait for that person and let your great designs spread the WWW. BTW thanks for using my post as an example, you actually promoting it, and i appreciate that. goodluck twister
Yes, this is how people think the Internet is: Budget to Start: Registering a Business (and: Business Name) = $100 Too much!! Let's Register a domain for $0.99 and if I can have a .com I won't pay more than $2.99 Custom Computer = $800 NoWAY!! Let's get one at Sam's for $299 and I will buy an used monitor maybe for $35 Software = $2000 I can get a crack for my programs online. Hosting = $150/year What??? There are free hosting with no ads. Doesn't matter if my website is down 5-10 hours a day. IT'S FREE!!! Corporate Image = $200 Naaaaaaaaaah! I'll get one on eBay for $0.99 or there's a forum where you can post contests and you have many to select from and you just pay 10 bucks. Printed material = $500 (stationery, invoices, forms, etc.) Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah! No, it's ok. I will get a $60 printer at Walmart and print everything myself. Website Design = $300 MAMMA MIA! I don't have that kind of money... Maybe I will get it for $20 or there are thousands for free. I have to spend the 95% of the time figuring out how to do it, but I will be learning something new, so "what the heck..." ....and list goes on.....and on.....
I guess it all comes down to what people are looking for at that time. i posted something, wouldnt even sell for $5, put it back up 3 weeks later and got like $25
...and then they come on the forums on Pay Day and post: "looking for a short Brandable, .com, with revenue. The more revenue and age the better. Must show 6 months rev. Must be at least $20 a month. Only brandable domains under 6 letters. If you do not post within these parameter, you will be ignored. Budget: $100." Like it's some kind of buyers swap meet, and .coms are just laying all over the street in an unlimited supply, and the internet is not a multi zillion dollar global economic platform, with thousands of people, and companies looking for the same thing. They crack me up. I blew $100 on candy last week.LOL So let me dig out one that I have been hosting and renewing for 10 years, that has PR, and rush to post it up for you for the price of a tank of Gas, and a Bucket of Chicken. WOW! $100. Are you sure you don't want it to be 3 char, with a vowel in the middle? They can't even fathom that they are at least 5 years late, and .coms in those parameters were never even close to that price. Not even in the mid 90's when there were only a few million people online.
