Directories are greater than search engine

"Free web hosting templates" on Google

what I got was a shocking result in top 10


www.100best-free-web-space.com a free web hosting provider is at 7th for that keyword

I think this is were directories can score over even search engines!


We need to built up resources so that we can join together and build an alternative resource or a search engine which indexes only directories!!

Good point you make there. Adsense and SERP chasing devalues search results quite a lot. However, the challenge is to make quality directories. Too many crappy directories and people won't bother with them either, especially as they'll probably rank higher in search results than the quality ones

 

I know what "Free web hosting" and "Free web templates" are but I have no idea what a "Free web hosting template" is - neither does Google, obviously. I suspect no directory knows what a "Free web hosting templates" is, either. Your example might be more convincing if the query made sense.

Directories have a great place but don't think they will ever take the place of a search engine.

The way you searched was random because Google will search for all the words together or seperate. If you did the term in quotes your results would have been like this : Search Results

 

But what about Yahoo's ranking of digitalpoint??

yes we can;t completely replace SE's ,but we can offer them an alternative search ,if we have a search engine of directories

 

Maybe someone at Yahoo got pissed.

Nice thought but it isn't going to ever even touch the power of Yahoo or Google and most likely not even come close to Alta Vista. It is like trying to compete with eBay in the auction racket, Yahoo tried and failed, Amazon tried and failed, they are just too powerful and it the same with Google and Yahoo.

 

But surely we can create a such one as there are 10,000's of directories!

This means 10000 editors! and greater

Which would be good 10000 editors or bots? for keyword like Free website templates?


Only these directories can provide you high quality listings!

 

Quality directories will continue to do well regardless of what the search engines do. I see no need for a search engine for directories, I think we already have that here on the forum as well as other forums out there.

 

You do make a valid point...

to often anymore im looking for somthing specific in google and find these pockets
of nothingness and yet not to far away thiers a web directory with its catagory most
relevent to the subject that was asked...

I belive that we can and will be worth much more thn others look at us for
and its only a matter of time till we find that perfect combination that will have
our sites submitted being the best choice for info requested..

Sometimes people are just 'way way out there'(OP) and tend to type without thinking.

It's like saying... well duhhh, how did i just find my own directory? Oh yea, that's right! I used a search engine hehe
