Redirect from BlogSpot to website

I have a blog at BlogSpot and is now ranked #1 in MSN for my keywords. I have also created an entire new website instead of using blogspot. How can I automatically redirect my visitors from blogspot to my new site?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Well, there is no easy way and thats the cost of using free hosting of blogspot.

One thing you can do is, host your blog on your hosting account, but still keep the blogspot URL. Have your index.html redirect to your new site.

I think it should be fairly easy. Go into your blogger account and access the template. Try implementing a redirect code and see if it works. Otherwise just call this guy: http://99zeros.blogspot.com/ :

Except according to http://www.seoconsultants.com/tools/headers.asp it's a 200 request and not a 301 which is what you need!

Do you have a snippet for the template? I would like to do it to my old blogger blog and redirect to my new wordpress blog, but not sure of the code.

Well, by the powers of google I found the code I was looking for. If anyone else needs to do it, just paste this into the head of your template on blogger:

Code:
<meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" content="0; url=http://bradsblog.net/">
"content" = number of seconds to wait before redirect

I tried ot on my old blog at http://bschneider5.blogspot.com and it seems to work!

I'd pull all the content onto your new blog, remove it from the old - put the redirects in and let the search engines catch up - especially if your domain is out of the sandbox.

I have been gradually moving my old posts over, I keep them around for when I run dry on fresh material!

When I've done this, I've put up a notice at the top of the page saying something like:

Code:
This site now has a permenant URL at www.newlocation.com

You'll find this particular post here:
<blogger><a href="http://www.newlocation.com/index.php?s=<$BlogItemSubject$>"><$BlogItemSubject$></a></blogger>

I link to the search page of the new blog with the title as the search instead of the new exact path because the URLs of blogger don't match those of wordpress and I figure that's good enough.

Spam ...

The spammers are widely using redirects out of blogspot. So you will be labeled as a spammer by Google when they see the redirect. I get several spam emails everyday from with a address like this

http://elizaschapirocs165.blogspot.com

The above is an example to spam to a site where you can buy illegal copies of Software products.

Whenever I encounter such redirects, I forward a complaint the the url to Google to deal with directly.

Cheers,
rfs
