Just how important is submitting sitemap to google?

I really want to know just how important it is to submit a sitemap to google. How much of a change will I see in indexing etc if I do it.

 

sitemap is the map for google bot and tells about the structure of ur site and helps in easy indexing

 

It isn't totally neccesary to submit a sitemap to google, but it can't hurt either. It is possible for googlebot to crawl your site on it's own provided you have good navigation. I would say that if you are in this to make money though, why not use all the tools at your disposal to get your entire site indexed as quickly as possible.

 

I find one of the most useful things about Sitemaps is the list of URLs not found. Can be very useful for tracking down missing content that's still linked to.

 

If the google bot knows the structure of your site it will be able to index it better.
If your site is indexed better you will get more traffic from Google.
More traffic = more money.
So... it's very important

 

Yeah, if you think of Google Bot as a train the sitemap is the train tracks.

 

I want to make a sitemap, does anyone have any ideas of what program or w/e to make one with?

 

Sitemap is important 'coz it's easily for SEs to index a site....

Site maps are a great way to get all your inner pages indexed quicker, it also allows better tracking for the stats in Google Webmaster Tools. It only takes a few minutes to do it, so I highly recommend submitting one of your site.

 

When do you guys make your sitemap? I am redoing my website, adding a blog, and a ton of new pages this week. I planned on making the sitemap after it was ready, or is there a good reason to do it before hand?

 

It went from no indexes to 8 pages worth of indexed stuff about my site.

 

I think it is very important....I didnt realize way back on one of my sites that all pages werent being index....the site map did this.....IMPORTANT

 

It depends on the site.

The reporting is the most important feature for me.

If a site has frequently updated content or has issues getting crawled then submitting a sitemap may help, other then that its pretty useless submitting information to google when they already have it.

Google likes to find pages from following links, so if your site is popular, google would of already found your content.

 

If I use a creator and it lists each of my 100 odd blog entries and each of the category listing etc, Google won't think that's spam?

 

site map is just for the website main pages or it can be of sub pages???
