Niche Neccessary for Blog?

Discussion in 'Blogging' started by Pandacowl, Jun 6, 2007.

Well, my friend and I started a blog a couple months ago at www.usmansworld.com I know I posted this before, but I'm still not sure what to decide. When we started we had no niche in mind, and now we have a lot of different categories from anything to videogames, sports, SEO. So, is a niche really necessary? And monetization is one of the goals for the blog.

niche is easier to rank for. it will be very hard to rank well for videogames, sports, and SEO, all of which are incredibly difficult on their own.

A blog with a specific niche will be much easier to rank in the search engines.

Ya Niche is easy to rank in SE's but!! if u choose Health Niche, u can only dream about ranking on 1st Page for that niche :p I mean its very difficult
so always choose a niche which has less competition

I think you can go for any niche you want, just make sure you are different from your competition and you should do well

I would prefer a niche blog to a general blog.

Almost all of the experienced bloggers said last time you asked this question that a niche was of the utmost importance. What do you need to hear to help change your mind on this?

If your goal is monetization and traffic, instead of simply blogging for fun, then I'd strongly re-advise you to focus on a niche.

agreed. If you don't blog for fun then you really need to focus on a particular niche, that is.

    Hi,

Competition, as you are probably very aware, is very keen nowadays. So you really have to blog on a subject that you have lots of expertise and in a "voice" that will appeal. It is very similar to a good featured newspaper columnist. Let me say that this is very difficult and it may take some time to "find your voice". I have expertise in various knowledge domains, but alas, no one really cares about what I know (e.g. Tai Chi). :) So, this whole business may be a little frustrating for you at first, and you have to have some degree of patience.

    Good luck!

It is much easier to get your blog to rank well for one thing than it is to get to to rank well for everthing.

I agree niche's are great if you're looking at getting a great rank on the search engines. However it's still possible with a bigger audience. Don't limit yourself if you don't want to limit yourself. Write about what you are passionate about. The main thing is getting it updated on a regular basis.

As a side question, how big can your niche be?
I'm trying to do home management (all the things a mom w/homeschoolers do) I try to do specific topics on specific days of the week i.e. cooking on Thursday, Cleaning on Monday, etc. Do you think that's good enough?

If you plan to earn from your blog then enter into one single niche and blog about the same it will increase visitors. Think about the niche you like... tech, tv, mobiles, gadgets. voip, seo... lots to choose from! :)

Niche buddy for example.. you chose to be a doctor then in that you are a Heart Specialist or Eye Specialist or a Nero Surgeon or Bone Specialist.

Heart Specialist or Eye Specialist or a Nero Surgeon or Bone Specialist is you Niche in the field of doctors. Niche in other words can mean your field. :)

I hope its clear with ya now.

A niche is just a specialty, a specific market. Like, most people who earn money from blogs have a very specific topic that they target. For example, instead of a general tech/gadget blog, they might have a blackberry blog or an iPhone mini site. The possibilities for specialization are endless.

But a super-specific niche isn't always necessary. You've already laid the groundwork for what to talk about by targeting men. Targeting what men usually want to talk about or hear about will be enough if what you right is quality, and if your posts are high quality that will only add to the amount of money you can make. So build a good reputation and money will follow is my advice.
