I followed in the footsteps of a couple other DPers and submitted my site to 'cool site of the day' It was featured Oct. 26th. If you are wondering if you should submit your site, the answer is YES! Why? you ask. You will get 2500-3000 unique visitors on the day your site is featured and I'm sure your earnings will cover the $27.00 submission cost. There will be residual traffic from being in the archives. Today, the day after I am receiving about 25% of the traffic from them as yesterday. If by chance you get selected as a potential 'site of the year' you'll get another huge traffic boost and if you actually win, you'd be set for 2006. This is also an excellent link building opportunity as you'll have your site posted on many blogs, forums and other 'cool site' sites. This in itself is worth the cost of admission. So how do I sign up? you ask. http://www.coolsiteoftheday.com/submit.html and fill out the form and pay your $27.00. Your payment does not guarantee being selected and if you are not you will not get a refund, but I have noticed that they actually missed days. I'm assuming they had no sites, so it should not be that hard to be picked if you have any content. After you submit you'll get an email within 7 business days (mine took 8) to let you know if you were accepted and if so when you'll be featured. (usually about a week later) In summary I think this is a great promotional opportunity, especially for new sites that want exposure. If you join, good luck and let us know your feature date so we can all vote.
Awesome information Roman1 - thank you for posting up for me and others to learn about it. I spent over $80 on PRWeb on my last press release and I got a great response - but $27 for some added exposure doesn't seem too shabby at all. Thanks again.
Pretty much any sites as long as they are "COOL" Take a look at http://www.coolsiteoftheday.com/cgi-bin/stillcool.pl to see what sites were selected and to see if yours is cooler.
Even if it's almost guaranteed that any 'cool' site will be selected after paying the fee, it still seems like a risk that one has a chance of getting nothing for the $27. I wonder if in the future when the submissions become more frequent, if more and more people will be rejected.
Coolsiteoftheday has been around forever... (at least since 1998).. I don't think submissions are suddenly going to skyrocket in 2005, do you? ps. good job Roman.. your site rocks. Save up some of that cash for a re-skin
The site has been up since 1994, so I am not sure why days were missed, just guessing. The odds of getting nothing back if selected are about as slim as winning the lottery...twice. IMHO. Even is you do not earn $$$ on your sites, the backlinks you'll get are worth it, again IMHO.
Having a site cool enough that it appeals to everyone is the problem. I haven't seen too many of those around here.
Ah but, having a site not cool enough that it won't appeal to anyone....well maybe there are a few, but if you have one you probably can't afford the $27.00 anyways.
This is a scam. Don't waste your $27. If you want uniques for free, get the switchproxy firefox plugin, code an auto browser refresh, and 5000 proxies and watch your trafic spike.
I am usually a pretty witty guy. I have a good sense of humor and feel I am intelligent enough to make a good comeback to any comment. I think I have good debating skills and talent to convince people of my point of view. But, in this case: I have nothing to say.
lol, yeah didn't see that coming. I'm sorry Iamned but get a grip, some of your posts are so off base, yet you say it in such a way that you actually 'think' you have knowledge on the subject. I gave some red for the cause. I do hope the posts change so one of these days I can give green, come on Ned show us you're capable of something intelligent!
If I did I'd be on my yacht now with 3 or 4 bikini clad women drinking champagne and eating caviar with the world bigest woody instead of replying to you. Damn, now I'm horny.
Don't be mad you never owned anything cool your whole life. I'll send you a grilled cheese sandwitch in the shape of Big Bird and you can enjoy it and not be so negative.
So wait...being skeptical is bad? If you want to waste 27 bucks on 'cool site of the day' go for it. Im sure there are some needy katrina victims that could use the money rather than a greedy scammer.
Having doubt is one thing, to post in a way that you have knowledge w/o any proof to the matter is another
