Hey all, I'm not going to complain, or whine, but I have a quality website that has been waiting literally 3 years. It's a running oscommerce store, no reason whatsoever it hasn't been approved on its own Merit. So I'm ready to pay, someone please point me in the right direction and what I should be paying. Please this is a legitimate request, and corruption at DMOZ has forced this upon our company. I'll PM anyone the domain if they're in doubt, please let me know, and yes we'll pay.
Thanks for looking into this, I PM'd you the link information and we're willing to do whatever it takes.
Well I'll cancel my request as I now see you can get banned for asking to pay someone. Odd since you can't get in otherwise. So please disregard and nobody PM me on the subject. BTW I've applied to be an editor before, submitted 3-4 times over the last 3 years. It's absolute crap and corrupt, and the pinheads that stick up for it are well.... pinheads.
Why did you offer to pay? Editors have repeatedly said its more likely to get you banned than get you listed. ...don't figure that you would complain and whine after being caught offering a bribe I guess that means the url has been tagged!
Doesnt matter if he got busted in trying to pay if he didnt get in anyway. But forget dmoz, its not important anymore.
After 3 years I'd really like to know what choice there was. The ONLY way to get in is to pay. My competitors paid, otherwise it's absolute crap and corruption. I don't know if the URL is banned, I DO KNOW there is no chance without paying someone off in my niche. I didn't know it could get you flagged for offering to pay, but there is NO other way.
I am sure no one is getting paid, donttrustthisposter. The Directory is moribund, it's very "2002" and it will continue to lose ground as the web grows, and its editor base continues to shrink. The link will bring you near zero human traffic, and it is not considered a "special" link by google. Save your money. Buy yourself a frappuccino, or give it to charity.
If you try to buy yourself into the directory - especially in such a public forum, all you will do is get your site banned. It is not worth it. Suggest your site and wait - really it is all you can do. That and buy yourself an iced coffee - yummy!!
Please provide in confidence by PM the evidence. If its true, then it will be dealt with, including the removal of the editor that did it.
There are whole niches that have only a few sites in DMOZ. For instance Myspace layouts: http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=myspace+layouts Four sites on the whole internet? Hmmmm There are hundreds for desktop wallpaper but only four for myspace layouts. Clearly the desktop wallpaper guy did not know you could make some money by not approving these sites. Again, only 18 sites on Forex training http://tinylink.com/?SJqrEBgWTv The mortgage editor did not know this was so lucrative because there are a couple thousand mortgage listings: http://xrl.us/wtfd There are more examples but you get the idea.
Yes its a very serious question. Of what use is the category to visitors if 100's of sites are listed? Do you think all those sites actually know about DMOZ? How many of them are MFA etc? Why don't you help out by submitting some? Are you not prepared to volunteer to help? But at the same time bag other volunteers.
This is nonsense. Go to webster and look up the word directory. Maybe you are right and all myspace resource site owners are complete marketing idiots coupled with no people who are willing to administer the category. Would you say there is a lack of volunteers in the FOREX category as well? Or did no forex guys submit their site? Those forex guys don't know anything about promotion, huh?
You have a very poor understanding of what DMOZ is and how it works. Its not a listing service for webmasters and does not want to list every site on every topic - only those with unique content that are different from each other.
