Just to anger my frustrations....

I am absolutely fed-up with idiots who live the life of crime and living of innocent, hardworking people's money...money that I earn hard so that my family can have a better living. Found out midnight last night that someone has used my debit card and transferred £8.5k (US$16k) to various credit cards. What if I didn't spot that last night, how much $$ would the low life has taken out. And now I have to wait weeks or even months before I know if the money will be refunded or not. The stupid bank should know that I don't take all this money out within 2 days...hate this mess and this b****y idiots. Not sure how my details are taken....!:mad::mad:

Chin up Walter. I know the short term inconvenience is a pain in the bollocks but as long as you've taken all reasonable steps to keep your card secure then the bank are duty bound to refund you. I have a friend who had all sorts of problems with HSBC and, from his experience, they seem to be more sluggish and disorganised than most, but you should still get refunded.

identity theft is the crime of the moment.

and it always seems that the one who has to suffer is the person who's identity has been stolen

i dont understand why a bank cannot just take the side of the victim straight away and then change later if they find it is not identity theft

am sure the bank will get your money back to your account! try keeping you details safe, if that card is attached with your paypal or ebay accounts, i suggest you to change the passwords!
also force the back to do it quickly, if you don't give them pressure they will take more time!

    Hi Walter,

I feel so badly for you kid! I hope it all works out for you.

I too was a victum of Identity theft and can say it isn't a good position to be in. Some stole all of my savings and after 5 months I am still working on getting it back.

Hope you have better luck then I do!

Until then kid, keep your chin about ya!

Btw, at least you caught it in time before you got totally drained....

Thanks for the word of support/encoragement. Feel like hiring a Private Investigator and track this guy down and once I know who he is, he'll be sorry he ever mess with me....then again, I have got my kids to think of ... Just can't understand some people's mentality... for me, I rather be poor than be a con/scam artist...maybe I am in the minority..:)
    Thanks again guys.

That's why I keep most of my money in secure cd's. My main account only has a few thousand in it, so that "thieves" can't get to the lion's share. Also you can put limits on daily/per transaction amounts on your CC's / debit cards. (i check that account daily)

OMG £8k i too much, i dont know whats wrong with the banks, i would think that the bank would check the account out or phone up the account holder if that sort of money is being taken out within 2 days.

Well good luck in getting the money back, have you called the police?

I tho't the bank will call the police. The Nat-alie West bank is crap...they should have rung me and get some kind of authorisation. At least when I spoke to them, they said I got get a refund as long the account the money was transferred to do not belong to me...! What prove do they need. I won't be going through all these hassles if they were my account...no common sense...:(

    ...hindsight is a good thing...!

I think they mean so long as you didn't transfer the money to yourself somehow and then claim it was fraud...kind of like burning your house right after you get insurance or something ;)

don't put anything past the bank though, follow up, make sure they took the necessary steps with the law enforcement. From what you've told us thus far, they might have "forgot" to alert the authorities

then once you recover your funds (hopefully), find a more secure place to put the $...under your mattress, in a glass jar buried in the backyard....def not the bank ;)

I am sorry that happened to you, I hope that you can recover the funds quickly.
    Just an FYI:
I am always Leary participating in forum discussions.
Some of the most harmless discussion questions in the general chat areas always draw a red flag for me like:
    What's your zodiac sing?
    When is your birthday?
    What's your favorite sports team?
What kind of car does everyone drive?
Show a picture of your workstation.
    and stuff like that.
These are all common questions for password retrievals. It seems strange that they come up so often in forums

If someone is tracking the answers of the users, they feasibly could gather enough information on you over time through these seemingly harmless "General Chat" questions, combined with your email address, to luck up on all sorts of information about you, including a password or two.

Maybe I'm paranoid, but I think we should all be careful when answering such questions.

Not in a million years...my theory is the garage where I go to buy petrol for my car is run by some rough necks - (the petrol is relatively cheap), so I think there are people there who got my card details...I will now just pay cash whenever I go there again. Thanks hmansfield for your concern and advice..!
