Yet MORE evil from Google - Google installing spyware?
http://blog.opendns.com/2007/05/22/g...urns-the-page/
Is Google now installing spyware on people's computers? I think it's time for Google to revise their principles. "Do evil if we can make some cash off of it". |

It's market share grab, nothing more, nothing less. I just hate that these two companies are involved in it - I thought both of them were above this kind of stuff.

Hello,
Google is going to do stuffs like that because we "Internet Users" are doing with. Have you ever heard if you love someone more than usual and do everything for him then he will play devil with you? We are doing the same thing with Google. I mean we can live without Google Status bar too. We don't need Yahoo Status bar either. If you want to find something you can go easily to Google.com, Yahoo.com, or whatever. Our problem is we use everything what they are giving us. You don't need any Google Desktop on your computer for example. It is your own computer and you know exactly where your files and folders are and you can find in your explorer. I am just saying we should try to use all those stuff from Google and Yahoo at least. Google is for me a search engine and I use it only how it should be. When we are together they will be much nicer to us. Am I wrong? ameran |

The only thing I use from Google is the Page Rank bar.

![]() tho, there is already a thread discussing this that was opened earlier. I did read that post on OpenDNS's blog...and it kinda made me feel weird, weird enough to remove my google toolbar (heck if I know why I installed it) and some other FireFox addons. Now i just need to disk -f and reinstall everything and watch porns in peace without being spied by this voyager of gabrielangel :P |

It is not important what you are doing in web. It is important we should not let Google, Yahoo or whatever make money with us. We should use only the search engine to find something and that is all what we need. ameran |

I have a lot of things over my head, you think i would want to also carry about "how to stop Google making money"? No way man, if they provide me services I need, i will use them. If i need that "spyware" in my computer (hell no i don't) i will use it The thing is, that they have the ideas, the money and the power (and their power is providing free services to the users, which in this case is not what they are doing, and in return of those services they earn) i mean, who gives you something for free if it won't have a minimal interest of that? How many sites give FREE tutorials, tips, tricks, hacks, downloads and stuff...do they do it just because they have nothing smarter to do during their day? Nope, there is always something behind that. If you just look around here at DP and surf on those threads where the word FREE is included and you just try to look deeper and ask your self, why is he giving this service/offer fpr free. you will realize that he/she will have benefit of that in one or another way (material, traffic, backlink, reputation you name it). Just my 2-1/2 cents, i am tired and i think it is time for some ninna nanna |

I understand what you are saying. I know it is nice to use free stuff from Google, Yahoo, or other search engines. And I know we can’t stop them to make money but we can stop them to use us for their own interests. When I see they give me for free a Toolbar but they want to find out what I do in private then I won't use this product. They can still make money but when they see people are not interested for Toolbar then they will do the right way. Sleep tide. ameran |

How you think is clear tome, and you are right in many aspects, but you should keep in mind that today is called Google that what you "don't like to make rich" yesterday was called "Microsoft and their Windows XP bug" tomorrow it could be your name. I am definitively going to bed now. G-0Night (and i don't mean Google Night :P). |

I read that article, pretty shocking.
Did you see the screen shots or go to the example searches? All sponsored links above the fold! And the 'related searches', on the right, take you to similar pages. I bet they wouldn't be too impressed if I modeled one of my sites on that template! |

I had removed my Google Toolbar a few months back after I became concerned about the privacy issue. For checking PR, I now use the Firefox addon Search Status. No more privacy concerns
