This might have been contraversial if you posted it 2 years ago but no one has said Alexa was accurate for sites over 1,000 since.
Those fake rank tools have been around forever |

You can use fake rank on couple of computer at same time to get into 10k within 7 days.But it is madness to use these kind of softwares to exploit Alexa.It's way cool to hard work to promote your website and keep good alexa rank as well.Because some of the clients still consider Alexa as ranking authority.Tough to tell them

Alexa is not accurate of course, but it's the only one trying to rank for traffic.
May be google will come out with that idea too, I bet google has more than just 10M toolbar users.. |

Do not bother posting Alexa boosting software. Anyone can easily inflate their ranking with a little javascript. See below, and enjoy:
Code:
<SCRIPT language=JavaScript1.2 type=text/javascript><!--
function reload(){
var strI=document.stored.Arrayvalue.value;
var str = new Array(20);
// insert target URLs between quote marks in array items below.
// To add or remove the total number items in the array, add
// lines to or remove lines from the array below and
// modify the number in "Array()" above and "strI" below to
// be one greater than the last "str[]" value below.
str[1] = "http://www.whatever.com/";
str[2] = "http://www.whatever.com/";
str[3] = "http://www.whatever.com/";
str[4] = "http://www.whatever.com/";
str[5] = "http://www.whatever.com/";
str[6] = "http://www.whatever.com/";
str[7] = "http://www.whatever.com/";
str[8] = "http://www.whatever.com/";
str[9] = "http://www.whatever.com/";
str[10] = "http://www.whatever.com/";
str[11] = "http://www.whatever.com/";
str[12] = "http://www.whatever.com/";
str[13] = "http://www.whatever.com/";
str[14] = "http://www.whatever.com/";
str[15] = "http://www.whatever.com/";
str[16] = "http://www.whatever.com/";
str[17] = "http://www.whatever.com/";
str[18] = "http://www.whatever.com/";
str[19] = "http://www.whatever.com/";
if( strI==20){
strI=1;
}
else{
URL=str[strI];
window.open(URL,'EC');
strI++;
}
document.stored.Arrayvalue.value= strI;
var intNumber=Math.round(Math.random()*45000);
if(intNumber<5000){intNumber=intNumber+5000;}
setTimeout("reload()",intNumber);
}
//-->
</SCRIPT>

About a year ago Alexa changed how they ranked sites and apparently they discounted repeat visits. I don't believe that this works very well as you can still inflate your rank simply by repeated clicking.

My Alexa experience
I downloaded the Alexa toolbar and found my Alexa ranking about 500,000+. I continued using the toolbar and suggested it to some of my clients and readers of my newsletter.
My rank steadily improved over a few months until eventually I made it to about 44,000. The kicker? My traffic hardly improved over that time! It was just that I had created more toolbar users for Alexa who regularly visited my site. So it is of very limited usefulness. Last edited by digitalpoint; Nov 8th 2005 at 4:47 pm. I use to frequently check my site in Alexa. During that time my site kept climbing all the way up to the low 40,000's. I stopped checking it every day and it dropped back above 100,000... So basically I myself was manipulating the results by simply visiting my site via Alexa every day...
Needless to say I don't waste my time checking it anymore... |

By their own admission, Alexa is only tracking the traffic patterns of those who have downloaded their toolbar. So, I give that about as much credence as one of those stupid polls you hear about on the news .... 66% of the public believes Elvis is alive ... (read the small print - they asked 150 drunks in Las Vegas).
Also, many regard their toolbar as spam, as it seems the sole intent of the Alexa toolbar is to obtain demographic data for the parent company Amazon so they can deliver better targeted spam
